OEM and aftermarket brake pads.

There has been a visible difference between the OEM pads and the aftermarket ones I have brought. The OEM have a thin perforated metal backing plate. I'm assuming it's for thermal insulating?
My advice is don't throw your old OEM pads away if going to aftermarket cause that backing plate easily lifts off and can be clipped over the aftermarket ones.

I wonder if that perforated spacer has a Honda Part No.?

I couldn't find anywhere you could buy them separately from the OEM pads. So I suppose if you wanted them you'd have to buy a OEM pad set.
I found out what they are. A little Google search. They are called shims and are for noise reduction, brake squeal.

While also acting as a bonafide thermal break (heat transfer theory) with some insulative factor as well.
They should be retrofitted to the aftermarket pads, as you have already figured out and done.

I didn't figure it out. Mcromo, my friend, you mentioned it a while ago. I just got some new aftermarket pads and thought why not.

The rear brake pads were different again. These had an actual insulation sheet between the metal shim and the pad. It all swapped over to the aftermarket pad easy.
