Engine number

Does everyones bike have a number etched on the motor like this?

I've had this bike for a while, wondering if it's a replacement engine or what.

Thanks for the info, looks like an 8yr old etched it in rather than Honda, glad to hear it is factory though.

Never thought to look there before. My '02 has similar marks -- BBA118. It's apparent Honda is dyno checking every engine during the test run after assembly and electric penciling the peak HP on the head.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Rob

If it has already been done, it is safe to assume it is possible to do it.
On the other hand, if it has not been done never assume it is impossible to do it.

You are on to something Sir !
Mine says 66, so I get that day they were doing peak torque numbers.
Obviously I have a "soft" motor.
I wonder how they decide from day to day what peak measure to use ?

This reminds me of the first year of the Gold Wing Limited back in the mid 70s. They dyno'd all the GW engines and only those in the top 10% were allowed to be fitted into a Limited model.

Dealer initials and date on floor purchased? A lot easier to etched while uncrating than memorizing vins....

oh, and Mine has it too.

I may not have a lot to say but it doesn't mean I don't listen.

I was looking at that the other day when I was doing a full detail. Kinda wondered what it was. Dealers initials and date make sense. Gonna have to go and check it out again.
