Funny how many despised the XS650 when it first came out, myself included.
But oddly enough, it has very much stood the test of time, to the point of my suggesting to one of our lads that he consider it as a platform for his first bike and build.
Very versatile in terms of style of build possible, in addition to simply making one roadworthy in more or less original condition from an externally visual point of view.

The depicted build very nicely holds the Yamaha colour scheme.
My friend and I traded off our bikes one fine 1976 Summer Saturday. His a 1974 XS 650 and mine a 1975 Honda 750F.
I thoroughly enjoyed that 650 and had a grin on my face that you couldn't remove! He couldn't believe how smooth
my 750F was when he rolled on the power.
I am thankful to be reminded of that day.

Lots of fun looking through the bikes on that site. The XT500 Yamaha........A friend let me ride his some decades ago, had a worked over engine and was the biggest torque monster, wheelie crazy four stroke single that I have ever ridden. I can still hear it in my mind all these years later.
