Did a quick test today, nothing overly scientific. Ran about 175 miles today on the green 919 (17/44 gearing and no PC ) and kept it nice and easy cruising at a constant 4k rpm (about 57 mph). few small town red lights and sat at a light for awhile but overall just cruising back roads....

So I never hit top gear -- using it would have dropped me down to about 3600 rpm. Good news is I had my best mileage every on this bike -- 47 mpg! low fuel came on at 160.

low octane in GA was $2.59 today.

Hey Mike, Interesting information you have shared. My 919 runs a 43 rear sprocket, not sure what the front is, but I assume standard. At 4K rpm, I am at 100kph or approx 60 mph in top gear. I find the torque with my 919 very strong and pulls in top gear from around 40kph. IMO, for touring, your 3600rpm in top gear would be suitable. I run 95 or 98 octane (no ethanol) Stay safe, happy riding. Cheers from Down Under.

Stock gearing for me. I always cruise about in the lowest gear possible, often puttering around town at like 35mph in 6th @ ~2200rpm or something, I don't pay a ton of attention. I just marvel at how great the fueling is running the PC3 and Yoshi maps, and net about 48mpg regularly.
