Cush hubs usually have no play, at least the ones I have seen, most likely this will just worsen because of the movement creating more wear. As for the sprocket, also a similar situation as the constant movement back and forth creates more space or wear. Hopefully the main-shaft is harder than the sprocket and the wear occurs to the sprocket. I would replace both.
How many miles do you have on the bike and on the drive chain and sprockets?
I know right now that I would change the cush bumper as a minimum.
just a lil over 22k miles
for the chain and sprockets- i believe they are stock and so they should be same with the bike
I believe I had 25k on my stock ZX10R set before I changed them all out. Replaced the chain with a DID ERV Gold I think it was and OEM sprocket set. Changed out the cush bumper pretty close to the same time. Are you feeling any clunking when you come on and off the throttle? If the teeth are showing wear and stretch on the rear sprocket, I suggest you change everything out. Nothing like keeping the power transfer gear in tip-top shape!
Are you feeling any clunking when you come on and off the throttle? - no clunking, just a smooth pull, i hear thin metal clunking with each other if you get what i mean, but not always, and i think i hear them from around the exhaust headers area but i have rechecked/tightened them headers nut and the sound still occurs

If the teeth are showing wear and stretch on the rear sprocket - both sprocket's teeth look normal/no visible wear on em

i am thinking given the age of the bike and its parts, i should replace them(cush hub, chain set) all together 😬

I think that is a prudent choice to replace all and be done with it for many years.

good point, i haven't thought about the new parts giving life to the bike for many more years- the only thought i had was i need to replace these so i can ride the bike 😅

I noticed what appeared to me as being very excessive sprocket "rock" at the splines of the front sprocket/output shaft.
By that I mean I could see you pushing the front sprocket in at 3 o'clock and it popping forward at 9 o'clock.
My guess is the sprocket was installed dry.

I figured you would. Very fine red oxide looking stuff?
also does the sprocket still look usable?

The oxide is exactly what I expected to see.

The front sprocket is not original, as evidenced by not having the Honda OEM elastomer damping coating on the sides. The tooth count looks standard though, as in 16.
The front sprocket shows wear. Can't tell how much by the picture but the fact it's clearly visible is telling to some degree. The sprocket is worn such that it matches the existing chain in a certain way. No way could that sprocket be used with a new chain. Bigdaa was spot on by his comments.

The best way to get a handle on the chain wear, and therefore the sprockets as well is to:
Clean the chain.
Lube the chain.
Warm the chain up on the stand or by riding for a few minutes.
While a race or centre stand is the ideal, it can still be properly done on the lean stand - it's just not as easy to see things, that's all.
Kneel down and face the rear sprocket.
Go to the 3 o'clock position/grab an outer link there/tug it outwards and see how far it moves away from the sprocket. (this is the so called "3 o'clock tug".
Don't be surprised if it lifts off a rather shocking amount, and if it does, you know it's toast, the sprockets too.
See less See more
did the 3 o'clock test and it lifts- ordered replacements parts... hoping they arrive soon, will have to again go through the dreadful customs processing
Surely it will be worth the end result!
Are things easier if the goods come from certain countries as compared to others?
In particular your fellow ASEAN countries Australia and New Zealand?
There's 919s in both.

countries does not matter i think and- what i noticed is that if the seller uses shipping companies(fedex, DHL, etc) the customs process is faster/convenient as compared to sellers that just send the parcel with my name and address attached

and unfortunately brixiamoto does the latter and they have the parts i need and i did not think of finding other nearer sellers(AU, NZ, JP, TH, IND) 😅

I find the same thing re international shipments coming in. It is always faster and way easier if it comes by DHL or FedEx, as long as the freight is prepaid by the shipper - thus making them the Customer to the freight company!

There is an irony in getting the parts from Italy, as that is where all the 919s were built!

so that is why they have lots of options! 😮
