Suspension

Hi Guys! Long time no post. My Dad, although still riding, gave his 919 to me. It needs serious suspension overhaul, upgrade. I know this topic has been discussed in many years gone past, but product lines are deleted, etc.

What and where can I get new internals for the front, as well as new tubes (upper).
What is available to outright replace the rear.
The bike is to be used two up as well.
I'm assuming the US would be the best place to buy required items.

I recently did a full suspension overhaul. Went OEM for the front, all parts to rebuild are still available.

Got a YSS shock for the rear because I'm not a racer and an Ohlins would be wasted on me. A number of us have purchased from here, which is half what you'd pay through a US distributor MONO SHOCK ABSORBER YSS MZ456-285TR-02-X

Very happy with how the bike feels after both.
Thanks! I saw that YSS was an optin, thanks for the link, it's the cheapest that I have seen.
Do you have a parts & numbers list for the front fork. Did you just go to a dealer or online for the front?
Here's everything I ordered:

51490-MEJ-003 x2 - Seal set
51414-MAZ-751 x2 - Guide bush
51415-MCF-003 x2 - Slider bush
91356-KA4-711 x2 - O ring
91311-PH7-003 x2 - O ring
90116-383-721 x2 - Lower fork bolts, not strictly required but good to have on hand if the old bolts get damaged
90544-283-000 x2 - New crush washers for those lower bolts

These are all for 04+ bikes, pretty sure some of the parts are different for 02/03 bikes.

And 3 quarts of Honda SS-8 suspension fluid. Should only need just under 2, but wanted to have extra just in case. Total for everything was around $100.

Got everything from Revzilla online. Have also used Partzilla without issue.

Suggest you check out this thread if you haven't already found it:
If it's new to you, suggest you start at post #5.
Valve kits are still available for the 919 from numerous sources, as are springs.
You did say "upgrade" in your opening statments. :)

Nitron and Bitubo both have shocks for the 919. LDH (member here) may be able to get an Ohlins. Andreani has the only fork cartridge kit that I'm aware of, gives compression damping in the left leg, rebound damping in the right and spring preload adjustment in both. Very reasonably priced. As far as replacement tubes I would try RaceTech.
I can offer 10% off retail on any of the above.

I think there might be one or max two of the very last factory run of the Ohlins shock unit for the 919.
Contact LDH at Kyle Racing East (Florida) if you are interested.
He for sure has the Ohlins front end valve kits.

Anyone know the weight setting of the spring on that YSS shock?

Also, what is the gain of the Ohlins front end valve kit and does it work with a certain type of spring (fixed vs progressive rate)?

Mine arrived with a 150 spring which I ran for a while - good for around town - but I have since put a 180 on it for open road/luggage/two-up.

Karljay!
We haven't heard from you in ages?
How are things going?
You must have forgotten the reams of front end revalving info that's been posted here over many years! :)

Hey!

Been a bit busy lately.

Still dealing with cancel culture. Some political activists working for the City of Sacramento are trying to take my house because they say that I have the wrong political view. They've fined me for how fast the grass grows, having storm damage during a storm and they said my paint is too old. They've racked up about some $4.5K/mo over about 6 years plus interest.

This whole woke / cancel crap is a real nightmare and it doesn't look like very many people are willing to stand up and do something about it.

So I'm getting ready to raise awareness of what they're doing to see if I can save my house.

Was also thinking about reworking the bike. She's got over 50K miles now and could use a going thru.

I heard Dan Kyle passed on, very sorry to hear that.

So do you get to pick the weight you want the spring to be? Do you account for things like luggage weight and gear?

I have a feeling that my luggage is going to add a good amount.

What do they charge for the spring alone and can you install it yourself?
I got my shock from brixiamoto.com in Italy and no, they didn't offer me the choice of spring - it had the 150 installed when it arrived.

The 180 spring alone was maybe US$50 - I needed a little help with compressing the old one to remove it from the shock, so I got a tech to do it - done in no time for a few dollars.

So the 180 is you in gear or did you account for luggage? I have a heavy tank bag and trunk, so if I should probably add for those? Did you buy the 2nd spring from the same vendor?

Sorry to hear all that. I thought you had sold and left Kali' a few years ago. Do you still have the Mustang?

I didn't see the springs listed, where did you get it for $50?

I'm about 2/3 thru a remodel of my house, so I didn't want to leave it unfinished because it's my retirement. I still have the Mustang and still working on a V8 conversion for it. I have the 5.0 HO engine, auto w/OD, but my TIG welder is acting up and I need to weld up the perch mounts. I plan on finishing it this year, I have most of the parts already, just need to do the work.

Traxxiondynamics also makes a cartridge kit for the fork.
