Got a call from the transport company yesterday. Bike is picked up. Will be here tomorrow night :)

Generally speaking, GSXRer USD front ends are shorter so one sacrifices geometry and ground clearance by using them.
Suggested is consideration of the use of F4i forks.
A serious set can easily be built, and with the substitution of a Traxxion compression adjuster, legit compression adjustment is realized.

F4i calipers give about 10 % more pad area, and have larger pistons.
Then select a nice radial master cylinder to go along with it plus braided stainless steel lines.
I did try to search but having found anything concrete. Excuse my ignorance....is there a certain year or parts list I should be looking for (forks, upper and lower triples, brake system etc.)

I'm not sure whether you are referring to F4i or other bikes with potential USD front ends.

IF you are asking in terms of the F4i, I can say this:
The F4i forks will fit directly into the 919 triples.
F4i model run was from 2001 to 2006.
F4 is not same as F4i, only F4i had the externally adjustable damping screws.
The F4i forks ought to be reworked, including modifying the top-out spring to short and soft thus internally lengthening the fork to make it same as the 919.
The F4i triples look to have about 5 mm less offset than the 919, so would add some more trail, which is a good thing.
But no one has yet determined if the F4i triples are the same as the 919 re bearings and distance from top to bottom outer race resting faces.
Even then, the F4i top triple would need an adaptor mounted to it in order to receive handlebars, as the F4i used fork tube mounted clip-ons.
There is also the issue of fork stops, fork lock/ignition unit and 919 instrument cluster/headlamp mounting compatibility and/or adaptation needs.

IF you are asking in terms of a Honda USD conversion target, the best sounds to be the RC51 SP2, but they are very scarce nowadays.

IF you are asking in terms of the long list of Showa USD forks on other bikes (such as GSX-Rs), such forks are predominantly way too short.
Years ago, someone posted a table with 20ish or so forks and their lengths.
I thought I had it, but don't, and I spent time searching today for it on our website, but to no avail.

Not everyone cares about the resultant geometry and front end ride height of their 919 when they pursue an USD front end clip conversion.
If they intend to do any track days, they should.

Hopefully this helps you at least some.

By the sounds of it, there are no simple, bolt on front end swaps unlike the SV and the gsxr swaps. Are most just doing a racetech or traxxion spring upgrade and gold valves?

Got the safety done tonight. I need tires which wasn't a shock. Also the damn bar end mirror broke off just prior to safety! I dont know what the PO did but he didnt install them correctly

Nothing too special. Definately clean. Will need to degrease in the spring but here it is about 2c out right now.

Correct.
And I suggest not to focus on just the mechanical ease, and be sure to also include the resultant ride height and front end geometry. Personally, my primary concern is ride height, C of G height, and front end geometry.

Some just do springs and oil.
Some then add valves, be they Traxxion, Racetech or Ohlins.
Any F4i fork being valved and sprung begs for a revised topout spring and a Traxxion compression needle.

I got the bike officially registered to my name and insurance put on it.

A few things...the back end (plastics) are all loose. Entire tail piece and the rear signal light are loose. The wiring is also not the greatest so going to rewire the integrated tail.

Tires are shot. Rear tire is "flat" and squared off. Front has limited thread left. Both tires Circa 2010 so ill be replacing these.

Right exhaust has a rattle likely from the bafflectomy gone wrong.
Clutch engagement point is very high; PO installed the bar end mirrors wrong and was at half engagement due to it hitting the mount for the bar end (bang head!).

The front end feels very heavy and difficult to turn in....tires? Head stem bearing? (not tire pressure as i checked that)

Those are the big things I have to work on...


Bike feels short to me. I kept trying to get back on seat without luck. Handle bars are in my face so ill likely do the ultra lows. On the plus side, the 919 is alot faster than the SV and its very comfortable. Power is predictable without being overpowering. Love the exhaust but i am used to loud exhausts and this isnt loud. PAIR system sounds great on the decel.

T-Rex wont ship to canada without ridiculous shipping charges (50 bucks for the sliders and 37 to ship). Will have to figure a way around that.

The stock seat has a ton of wiggle room.. You can build up something beneath the front of it where it slides under the tank to lock in and it will cant the seat backwards slightly which will help (I used a thick piece of rubber.. others have used cardboard and duct tape) This doesn't make it perfect but definitely helps.

Ordered new tires (Pilot Road 2) and Renthal ultra lows in gold.

Really had no idea what kind of tire i should get. I am used to the Pilot Power CT2 on both my road and track bike. Fantastic tires but when it came to the CB, I had no idea. I do enjoy leaning over and rarely ride in the rain (unless not by choice) but I am hoping once I get healthy again from my post concussive syndrome i'll be able to live my dreams again and get out there.


Is it just me or does anyone else find the speedo very hard to read?

You might look into whether or not you need glasses, mate.

Kidding, kidding...

It's a bit on the small side, admittedly. Once you get used to which ticks are the ones you care about though, it's not as big a deal.

First mod....
Replaced the "upgraded" led turns that the PO had. Could barely see in the daylight.

Handlebars and tires are arriving tomorrow. Hopefully can get in a few km to see if it helps with the turn in feel

I really do not like the black backing on the gauges.
At around dusk I find the gauges harder to read, one really has to look and not just glance.
Once it is dark, it's not as bad.
I wish the backing was white.

Has anyone explorered face swaps to possibly something more legible? Is it worth while to change the bulbs to a different colour (no i'm not a ricer) thinking like pure white or something?

Lol my visions isnt terrible! I do have some vestibular issues so i really limit my riding right now (essentially things are a bit blurry so i'm limited to only a few km by choice).

Got some new tires put on today. Snapped the bar end mirror again so ordered some chinese knock offs. If these break again than i'll grab so CRG arrows.

Thinking next on the list is the exhaust. The PO did the mufflerectomy but it sounds like something is rattling around.

I put on a pair of Delkevic pipes and was very happy with them. They weren't expensive but well made. Sound great. Come in a heap of styles. They also came with a stainless single Y link pipe. You remove the honda Y pipe. You can use the Delkevic link pipe to fit a variety of 51mm end cans. I believe the Delkevic Y link pipe can be brought separate. Right now I'm rocking a pair of cheap chinese cans mounted on the Delkevic Y link pipe. Very loud! But fun.
