Anybody here real heavy in interfacing things with micro-controllers like the Basic Stamp II ?
Also need someone that really knows mag/cdi ignitions.

Trying to build a small programmable curve box for a mag/cdi using something like a BSII. Need some advice/info.

It qualifies you to blow me.

hehe...I made a funny.

And I laughed at it for five minutes.

Seriously now....the programming is probably similar to what you use to program your "up the skirt" sneaker cams.

In the hopes that someone brainy will read this.
Typical Mag/CDI....stator/rotor energize the capacitor, flywheel trigger trips a theristor (sp) that grounds the capacitor and dumps the charge into the main coil...= spark.
Ok....what about the simpler type of Mag/CDI...stator/rotor energize the capacitor and somehow dumps the voltage into the main coil...these simple systems (PVL, early dirt bike, lawn mower etc) don't have a flywheel trigger. Does the collapse of the field at the rotor/stator cause the capacitor to discharge into the main coil?

thermistor :D

What is the application? I didn't understand your mumbo jumbo in your first post.

I guess I would assume that if something needs the resistance to vary as the temp. varies, you couldn't just take out the thermistor and flywheel trigger. Or are you building something from scratch? Or are you just drunk?

A little more info and I'll be able to make up more stuff. No, really, I'd like to know.

All of the above.

Actually I used the wrong terminology....I should have said Thyresistor. Or more specifically an SCR (Silicon controlled Rectifier).

The rotor stator windings charge a capcitor....then the flywheel trigger sends a voltage to the SCR which is like a switch that grounds the capacitor and dumps the voltage to the ignition coil.

I'm working with a PVL mag/cdi which has no flywheel trigger....so I need to know how it triggers the capacitor to dump it's voltage to the ignition coil.

Then I have to figure out a way to use a microcontroller ( a complex programmable switch/timer/tiny computer) to delay the spark. I'm trying to modify a standard PVL race ignition. I don't want to add a flywheel trigger if I don't have to.

Phase one is complete. I've built and tested a signal generator circut to simulate pulses from a crankshaft.

Uses a very simple circut that includes an integrated circut timer (555) and a few other modifications I made to allow for adjustable frequency, pulse width and signal strength.

Here's a teaser shot of the scope during one of the tests.

Any pointers from electronic pros or microcontroller geeks is of course welcome...I'm just burnin my way through this without soaking up as much as I should.

I know so little I don't know what I need to know.

I'm mostly just showing off.
