Honda 919 parts needed - crash damage

585 Views 26 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  K1w1Boy
Well, my son crashed my '07 919 the other day. He blew a turn (riding above his skill level) riding with his friends and skidded into a ditch. He and the bike took a hard tumble. He was extremely lucky and he's okay. He dislocated his shoulder and got bruised up pretty good. Thank the good Lord above, he'll be fine.

I can't say the same for my bike. I've heard that parts are pretty scarce for these bikes, but had to ask.
I've only had it for less than 6 months, and now that riding season has just begun I'm really down in the dumps.
I'm torn between wanting to fix it or bite the bullet and replace it. There's a couple 919's for sale nearby. I'm not rich but I am fairly handy. I'm pretty sure it could be repaired. Less than 14k on the odometer, and it was well maintained before I got it.

But... it's going to need some parts, that may or may not be available anymore.

Here's the list:
It bent both forks, bent the radiator that caused a slight leak, really damaged the tank (but no leaks that I've seen), broke the rear cowl, cracked the front fender and destroyed the headlight. The front stay is bent, but it could possibly be straightened enough to work. The handlebars are an easy replacement, as well as bent rear brake lever. The instrument cluster works, but the plastic mounting points are cracked.

I realize I'm reaching quite a bit, but if anyone has any of the items I've listed that could be spared, please let me know. I really love this bike and will likely try to repair it, if possible.

Thanks,
Larry

just sharing what i think can be an option for you...

this one is up for sale, maybe it is within your range

your 919 can still earn you money by parting it out and selling the good bits

good luck sir...

Ouch.
Here's the instrument housing, which is prolly all you need for that area of crash. Just swap the internals. May as well get the new rubber mounts for it while you're in there.
The '07 chrome cover is NLA, this diagram is for an '02 which is matte black and looks better, imo.

Fork tubes and radiators are on eBay
New tanks and rear cowls are gonna be pricey, but they're still available for '06-'07https://www.ronayers.com/oemparts/a/hon/5053f6a6f870021c54be816d/seat-seat-cowl

Yep. I'd buy that one and make sonny-boy patch up the crashed one if he wants to go for a ride...lol
Hey, thanks for responding guys!

I'm on the east coast in NC, so that one's a little ways away. ;) But a donor bike would be the ticket.
I appreciate the links! I didn't know about that site. I will be researching any and all possibilities to gather the needed bits. If there's more sites w/ 919 parts, let me know!
No insurance, other than liability.

I've scoured ebay, and didn't find anything I needed, but I'll keep looking. If you guys see anything out there, shoot it to me.

Is it possible to repair dents in tanks? I mean can the metal be worked on, like auto body stuff?
Are there forks that fit the 919, if I can't find original. I'm guessing mine are toast, correct?

Pardon me if these are dumb questions, I'm somewhat new to bike repairs. Although, I'm learning. I did restore my older son's bike after he slammed into the back end of a Sheet's truck on an exit ramp. We found most parts on ebay. There's a ton of Suzuki GXR parts around. I really didn't think I'd be going through this again, so soon anyway. My bike has more bent metal parts than his did. His basically needed an all new plastic kit, headlight, instrument cluster, wheel, front brake reservoir, etc.

I'll keep looking and try to stay positive.
Thanks again.

Yep. They are toast.
I'm purty sure there's an extra set of fork tubes around here.
Lemme know what you decide to do on repairs

F4i (and F4?) forks also fit the 919. Either need to make some simple straps to be able to mount a 919 fender, or you could get an F4i fender. Gives more options for you to find replacements.

I talked to him and I think that's the route I'm going to go.
Do you happen to know of a reliable source to have the bike transported from west to east coast?
Thanks for your help!
Google "motorcycle transport" and pick one.
yup, did that and you were right on the price
Well, I opted to buy Niners bike (thanks rufftup, for the lead) and it's now on the way cross-country to NC.
Hopefully it makes the journey safely. I asked for quotes from several different transport companies and got pounced on like a bunch of hungry wolves!

Hi @rc4jai , I just got my first 919 about 2 weeks ago, I've noticed in the time since that my rear shock is blown and that aftermarket options are pretty expensive, so I've been pricing out used stuff - I noticed Niners bike has an ohlins shock which I assume you'll be using, would you be willing to sell me the rear suspension from your bike assuming it's still in decent shape?

get the YSS, it’s reasonably priced and performs well. Basically an OEM+ replacement. Several of us running this one

@opengl Pains me to say it but too rich for my blood in the immediate future, but good to know there's a reasonable new option. Do you know if it's rebuildable?
I received Niner's bike this morning. I can't believe it was transported cross country that fast. I got lucky. I think I was the last one to get picked up and their first delivery.

I'm not selling anything yet. I will let you know though, if/when I get to that point.
