It's that big cancerous lump. I never thought about just drilling out the honeycomb and putting the mid section back on.

If I went to all that trouble I"d have to jet hot the whole thing though. Hmmmm

 

Is there asbestos pellots like a car has or just wrapping?

 

My 07 600RR has a cat. That bike runs so clean, I'd never dream of removing it.

I don't know if the Cali models have one or not. Our 48 state bike does not. If I had one I'd keep it. Hell, I'd even consider swapping a cat mid pipe just to see if there is any difference.

 

I removed one--just honeycomb--no pellets, Its just like 200 1.5" long drink mixer straws bundled together. I put a 06 Y on my 02--so it never had one from the get go so no need to put one on.

 

Did you notice any difference? would like to see a pic of them "Straws".

 

i thought they were precious metals in there like platinum. I know you can get some good money recycling them. Didn't know about the asbestos.

 

I removed mine also, but didn't notice any power difference. I do believe I did notice a little difference in sound but it's been so long I really don't remember very well. But there are definitely no problems.

 

How do you get them out? Screwdriver & hammer, holesaw?

My Hornet 900 started out in life without a cat. However, I had really bad problems with exhaust fumes stinking up my jacket (and my ponytail when I used to wear my hair long). It's a very long story, but Honda UK referred the stink problem back to Honda Japan, and Honda Japan eventually decided that I should have a cat fitted to my bike to cure the stink.

When I had the replacement Y-section fitted on my exhaust, with a cat for the first time, they also changed the ECU, as they said that the old one would be unsuitable for the new catted set-up.

I must admit that, while the bike's characteristics were somewhat changed, much to my surprise I preferred it with the cat. It seemed to smooth out the slightly snatchy throttle, and added a bit more mid-range. Fuel consumption was unaffected, and I can't say that I noticed any change in the noise. But it did more-or-less get rid of the stink problem too, so I was a happy camper.

 

So the 07 Non-California model definately has one in it?

 

Yes, in 06 they all started having them. Black Y--no cat, stainless Y--cat.

 

My Bad, sorry, just went and looked in my y-pipe, yup.

 

Interesting - I thought the cat was on the CA model only, regardless of year. You learn something new every day!

I just assumed it was before the upsweep

 

I was afraid when I punched my cat that I was going to get the stinky smell but I never noticed a difference. Also I had just added a PCIII at the same time. So I may have made up for any throttle changes that may have been felt.

 

is the cat in the Y or before it because i was about to buy two brothers right side exaust, the would that get rid of the cat?
