Nice....very nice. I checked out the whole thing. I understand why this place is mentioned soo much. Curve after curve after curve! Mmmmmmm arrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh:eek:
If you plan on going, check out Fontana Village, that's where we stay when we go down.

There's about 15 of us heading back there for the long weekend in May.
The Dragon is 318 turns in 11 miles, great road. Definitely check out Cherohola Skyway as well, turns are not at tight but long sweeping ones!
So uhhhh, when exactly are you going and is there room for 2 or 3 more?? An '05 600RR (me), '04 RC (h_ryder) and possibly an '04 1000RR (his brother).
Either the week of May 15th or the week of May 22nd.

If you don't mind hanging out with a bunch of Canadians, then you're more then welcome! Chip in on the cabin and food, one of the guys cooks all the time, he's a fireman and can cook a great meal!

We'll be making the final plans soon and booking 2 or more cabins, let me know if you would like to join us. We obviously trailer all the bikes down and the drive is anywhere from 14-17 hours for us.
I need to make may way down there sometime soon, but I might be waiting until June or so. It only takes about 5 hours from central Illinois, I believe. Let me know what weekend you're going for sure, I'll see if I can make it (if you have room for one or two more, my bro might come). We'd probably just ride down on the bikes. No need for trailers for a 919 or a 96 ZX9 w/ Corbin

Is it a requirement to use annoying music on any motorcycle video? What's wrong with the sound of the engine? I would much rather listen to the rumble of a V-twin or the scream of an inline 4 than power ballads, punk, metal, or hip hop.
I'm gonna' go ahead and say I'm in no matter which week, but if it's the week of the 15th I may have to ride down alone after a couple days if I get screwed and my final isn't on the 13th. The week of the 22nd is stellar if you're taking votes. Haven't any problems with Canadians, Canadians love me.

Brian will have to double check with his brother, but I'm guessing you've got 3 extra guests.:D
Sounds like a plan to me... eh? :)
More then likely it will be the week of May 22nd, more people are leaning to that. We'll probably leave Friday evening (May 19th) and arrive around morning/lunch at Fontana Village the next day (May 20th).

Have you guys been there yet?

And get used to hearing "eh" a lot cause we all say it!!
Nope, not yet. Very excited about it.

We had been discussing a possible trip down there for that same week before Memorial Day since my classes would just have ended and it yields an extra day to recover at the end. Great minds think alike eh...

Sheat! Folks over 80 say 'eh' all the time in my town!;)
CMulford, check your PM's for more information on the trip.
Just giving you a head's up on what to expect at Deal's Gap with a bunch of Canadians.

Last time we went, there was a group of riders in the next cabin from Florida who came down for the week. By the middle of the week, all but 1 out of the group of 6 had went down, one was in the hospital (he was ok, thankfully). We actually made bets when we saw the Florida plates on how long the group would last before going down and it didn't take long. The last one was going to come out with us one day cause he had no one to ride with but took a look at our tires and said screw it. Another time, the "R1 Forum" had a meet there over the weekend, about 6-8 of them followed each other into the ditch one after another. There were R1 parts everywhere!
Ouch, that sucks...

Just promise me you won't be purposely leading us into any ditches and we'll take care of the rest...
Just don't get target fixation if the rider in front of you goes into the ditch!
Yeah I thought you guys would like this video, the guy who shot it had a nice clear view of the road with his camera. I was hoping to take down a new '06 Gix750 but they arrive in the Brampton(Northwest Toronto )warehouse on March 16th so I'll have to take the 'heavyweight' Gix1. I'll probably get a big van for the trip or possibly an Chevy Avalanche. Anyone recommend some loading ramps, preferably light aluminum with decent width.
I say they have a Deals Gap race ala Isle of Mann...
I second that Deals Gap TT !
(and the next closest thing is the Cape Breton TT Sept. 24th off the east coast of Canada, eh , you betcha skidaddy, BOOYAH !)

Cape Breton, one of the best things that Canada has contributed to the world!

I was told there is an unoffical record time for "The Dragon". Something like 11 minutes?

Go to Canadian Tire and get ramps! You can find them for around $200 and they're good enough.

RECORD TIMES:
You will hear a lot about the fastest times on the Dragon. The original timing involved a run from the Overlook to the Crossroads of Time and then back, an 18.6-mile distance. The round trip time was then divided by two. The Deals Gap Riding Society record for an amateur rider was a 22 minute round trip run, which averaged out to 11 minutes (50.7 mph average). The overall record was 18 minutes, or 9 minutes one-way (62 mph average). In order to compete for a new record one had to make the run along with the current record holder.

These records were set back in the early 1990s when there was little traffic on the Dragon. Today, with the road patrolled by sheriff and highway patrol, you will risk severe penalties if you try to beat the records.
Found that at this link:

Fatalities on the Dragon:
2005 - Three deaths: All three deaths involved failing to negociate corners - two went off the mountain and one slid into an oncoming vehicle.
