Well, we did it. 42 degrees when I got up Wednesday morning so I decided it was time to ride. Nothing really to report. Yo to this point it’s been a tad over 2 years since I’ve been on a Hornet and I seem to have forgotten a few things like Just how compact the platform is. Man are they nimble little shooters. The narrow bars never sat well with me and my last hornet I put slightly taller/wider Renthal bars on. I think I’ll do that again.
The hand guards were a really good idea. They kept the wind off my hands in the cool morning at 85mph and that was an absolute blessing. The shield did as good of a job as I could hope pitching just enough wind upwards that my chest wasn’t taking the full force.
once I got to the halfway point of my 25 mile commute I stopped (where this picture was taken) to look things over. This was the first REAL time I’ve riden this particular bike. I put 7 miles on it after I put the new fuel pump in but before I really did anything else and it was running like crap then. I noticed some oil gathering around the left side bottom rear of the tank seam between the seat and the side plastic. I assume this was coming from the airbox? I wiped it off and by the time I got to work and then back home I saw no more. Same with the coolant dribble I noticed days prior. It seems as though the system was overfilled and pissing out the excess. There was a puddle in the shop, a few drops when I stopped at the fuel station, but not at work or once I got back home.
My low fuel light came on, flashed a bit, then stayed on. It’s got a full tank. Not sure if it’s a bad connection of faulty sensor. I’ll have to pull the tank this weekend and see what’s up.
Otherwise, my next work commute will be 200 miles round trip so hopefully the weather is similar and I’ll get a good long shakedown down.
But for now she’s on the road again. After spending <9,000 miles on the road and then about a decade in a barn she’s free to roam again. Hopefully we have many more miles together.

You have to leave for work at 3 in the morning?
i know. It’s borderline criminal having to leave at that hour. Kind of hard to enjoy anything with that schedule but it pays good. I will say that depending on my mode of transportation the pre-dawn hours are peaceful as I have the roads (even the interstate) mostly to myself.

These are only dust covers... The actual fork seals lie beneath them. As long as you don't see any leakage, you're gtg

Also noticed you deleted the red extra decals... good call, imo

If you're looking for a luggage rack, these appear to be still available:

This is for the metal frame only, but you could affix anything flat to it.
I used an inverted 9X12 cookie sheet (hey, don't laugh it made the beer runs) until the opportunity to fabricate something a bit more aesthetically pleasing came along...

How’s the wildlife on the roads at that time during our commute?
abundant, to say the least. Dodging ***** and opossums is most of it and I’ve hit a couple. Not fun. The worst is scaring a skunk in the ditches on the dirt road. I’ve gotten to work and realized that one sprayed near enough to me that I carried the stench all day. But the deer are what really scare me. I’ve been lucky but I know people who have hit them. And that’s terrifying.
