I just got one (D-Link DI-524) for free after rebates at TigerDirect if anyone needs one.

Anyhow I dont know jack about these buggers so if anyone can direct me to an EASY to follow site or walk me through one or two things Id really appreciate it.

My primary question is:
I have it set up with my desk top in my office, everything is all up n running correctly, I think, but whenever you look at the screen that shows all the possible local connections......... mine (along with several others) say its an unsecure connection. I want it secured or locked like I see some other person has it. I assume its done via encryption?

Other questions:
- Even tho the primary reason for this purchase was to get internet access for my laptop......I was wondering can I upload and/or download files from my desktop HD from the laptop?

- How likely am I to getting either pc hacked having the router at one end (desktop) and a wireless card at the other (laptop)???

Id like an answer to each question by the time I get back from Red Lobster. :D

TIA!

XFBO, there is a WEP option on the setup for wireless so only people you want can use your router with encrypted key.

I'm sure that it came in with instructions, right? follow those and it will be easy. There should be a designated IP you have to copy/paste onto your browser to get into the setup.

Maybe this link helps...

TY RC90!

I pretty much had all that info already but I appreciate you digging it up. You actually jogged my memory when you said to copy n paste the special IP into the browser. :blushing:

Anyway after doing that and making a few changes in that window I was able to change my security settings and now have a secure gate! :D
