I'm new to the board but trying to get info from someone who may have already travelled this road.

Firstly if one wanted to improve the engine performance of their 919 and wanted to go Deeper than just a set of slip ons and a Power Commander what would there be available to do?

Are full exhaust available? If so from who?

Piston kits? If so from who and how big? Taking this a step further has anyone done or even considered doing a 954 engine swap? I do realise that the 954 has a MUCH bigger radiator and this may be necessary to keep the extra heat under control but back to the original question of ---has anyone done this swap? If so problems/ results etc etc.

Please tell me what your experiences have been and share with all of us.

Thanks for the reply--But why do you feel it wouldn't be a good idea to do an engine swap? Surely the big bore kit, cams etc would cost more than just finding a used 954 motor and swapping it out. Would seem to me to be the least expensive mode of operation. I do remember the MUCH bigger radiator for the 954 motor but if one were to go to 970cc big bore wouldn't the same problems with heat dissipation be an issue??

Please expand upon your thinking.


One last question--is there something SPECIAL happpening for 07?

it's not a direct swap...and grafting bits ain't a piece of cake either

swappin radiators isn't a big deal, couple other things need to be swapped as well...

check out alexa's bike or read up on hornet 970's efforts, maybe check out the writeup on the Erion Project 919 bike or Jin's 12+month nightmare...it's all available in the archives of the well known 919 sites

there are a few full 919 exhaust systems available including the new borla system honda919rider is using

Update to Jin's nightmare: turns out the vacuum hose diagram in the Honda manual was wrong, which caused the problem. He's riding once again!

I'm with ratdog on this one, go with the big bore kit and some cams...or buy an FZ1

I like the turbo approach, but I don't know what's out there for the Hornet. On a naked bike, the turbo would be awe inspiring! Course, it may prove to be kinda overkill.

Which engine parts are a direct swap with a 900RR, and how much of the sleeve is left after the 945 bore. The sleeve doesn't seem to be that thick, and I think taking .5mm off of each side would possible cause some issues. Are the 919 connecting rods the same as the 900RR? I'm thinking about some forged pistons, stronger rods, stronger head bolts, ignition retard, and some more boost.

The 919 is a great bike, but not really one for tricking up. The best increases I've seen in HP are like 12-15 tops, which isn't really a great deal. It's more of a bling it up and make it sound better bike except for the turbo kit or nitrous which would dramatically increase HP probably at the expense of engine life.
If you want a real quick naked bike, go a B-King or a Duc Streetfighter, or naked up a CBR or R1.
I wish there were more options, but the bike has been built to get pretty much all it can out of its overall package already.
