XR650R

Do we have any XR650R experts out there. I found this new leftover '07.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda...spagenameZWDVW

It seems like a good price. A few mods and extra set of Excel wheels and I'd have a great off-road and SM bike. Any thoughts or input?

Yeah, here's a thought. Buy it before I do - you have one hour.

Except I'm not going to Kansas and they don't ship but if that were in Tampa you'd be saying "son of a !!!!! someone already bought it."
and I'd be laughing.

I could always pick it up from Evansville ... MapQuest says 8 hours. Later bring it back to Mass? There are no bids. I'll call Monday and offer $4200 with pick-up within a week. Let's see what they say?

Even more good stuff!

http://world.honda.com/HRC/products/...kit/index.html

I'm seeing print that says minor mods will get you close to 60 hp from a fairly stock bike and upto 70 hp from a hotted bike. Hmmmm ... All in a 300 lbs package!

At that price...I kind of wish I was still in the Springs. I'd be picking that bike up and trying to unload the DR.

The goal is to see how much power you can get out of it ... while still keeping it rock solid reliable!

Kicked all my my youthful life. The "magic button" is sweet, but kicking the XR over is no tall order when the compression is kept relatively normal. The "button" is a wonderful thing when you stall on a steep climb and sliding backwards!

If I can find a strong motored used '03-'07 at a great price ... that would work. I'd just rip it down to the frame. Get that powder coated black, get new Excel wheels in black, HRC motor mods, new suspenders, new tires, XR's only has all black body work ... I'd be a happy camper. This may be the way to go, because I would most likely rip apart a new one the same way. Why waste money?

The only issue I see with that bike is the licensing. I know that California's laws regarding dual sports is sketchy, and there are lots of things that trip people up. If the licensing is a non-issue, and he took $3500 for it, I'd say it was a steal.

It's worth it just for the license plate frame...it says

Very nice bikes.

How do you like the neoprene fork skins? I've been eyeing them, but have never used them.

They do the trick.
Keeps dirt & mud out of my fork seals & eliminates the sand blast effect when passing. No pits no dings.
They are water proof for the most part.
I rode three days through all kind of stuff & when I pulled the skins to check, everything was spotless.
I do recommend the hard fork guards as well.
The neoprene wont stop heavy rock damage on their own.

I'm gonna put a short set on the 9'er as soon as I get back over to the supply store.

I'm going to look at this -Street-titled 650 tomorrow. Does anybody see anything wrong with this build?

From what I've read ... it looks okay. The only thing I would be concerned about is the stator job. Is this kid a competent mechanic? Remember to ask the right questions.

He seems to be a competent mechanic, at least from the feedback I've read on Adv Rider. I, however, know my limitations and my knowledge base is slim, especially in this area-Adventure mods. Anyway, he wants out of it, and I kind of like it. How badly hurt could one get on a deal like this? Its a solid bike, if the electrical system need work... how much could that cost?

If you opt out and it's a good bike let me know. I'm definitely interested in a good clean XRR that I can rip apart and rebuild. My plan is to rip out the stator and replace with a 200W unit.

Seriously, if its a good bike and really don't get it ... hook me up.
