just kicking around ideas, wondering if anyone has ridden one and what your thoughts were of it.

KTM's infrastructure has vastly improved. I have heard better things about their reliability as well. What kind of dealer support do you have close by?

I have a dealer about a mile from work that has Yamaha, KTM, Ducati, Kawasaki and I think they support Aprilia but don't stock any. A harley dealer next to that and then a Honda dealer about 2 blocks from work. not bad for a town of about 3800 people. I'm just trying to figure out how to fit a dual sport into the budget, whether I sell the 919 or keep it. what I would want to fill my needs if I sold the 919 to spend more money. I have a lot to think about.

I'm voting DRZ400 or XR650L, used.

SuperMoto Racer Magazine gave the 690SMC a pretty awsome review. I plan to get one in 09 if all goes well.

I'm thinking of trading my 950 sm for a 690. Problem around here is lack of availability... and dealer support. Two dealerships , service rep is up in the air. . .
Also, I know of a situation of a new bike(08' 690 smc) blowing an engine in the first hundred miles. However, that dealerships mechanic is selling his bike to buy a 690 SMC. I don't know how to read that one... but I'm guessing they are pretty sound in most cases. I'm gonna take that chance, should the right deal arrive.
Good luck!
