The first 600
Well, I just completed my first 600 mile service. After 9 used bikes (Hodaka's x2, a KZ400, a 900SP, a 916, a EX250, a CB750, a SV650, and a 1150GS) this KLR is my first new ride.
Got all the fuzzy metal shavings out, changed the oil and filter. Wiped her down and tightened all the bolts. Tink, tink, tink on all the spokes, check the chain tension...
What's this, a coolant leak?
Fixed the coolant leak at the coolant reservoir with a zip tie (it looks like they recycled a paper clip and made it into a hose clamp)
So my new bike, made in Thailand, is on track to have more problems at 610 miles than any other bike I have owned.
7 miles - add some slack to the chain since it was as tight as a banjo string
75 miles - add 1/2 quart of oil
122 miles - right rear turn signal stalk broken
320 miles - left rear turn signal stalk broken
610 miles - coolant leak at reservoir
What is next?
On Tuesday I received a muffler recall in the mail from Kawasaki, apparently the muffler may fall off and I'm not supposed to ride the bike until it is repaired.
Yeah - Right!
Going to get dirty tomorrow A.M! Planning the dual sport ride for next week, it is going to be fun!!!
(I dont' mean to sound negative, it is a great bike and I'm having a ball)
