Preparing to travel

This week I'll start assembling my "long distance travel preparedness kit" or LDTPK as I like to call it - here's what I have so far slated to go in the kit:

multitool

Crazy glue and JB Weld in a pill bottle

Build a PVC goodies tube the right size to double as a front wheel prop stand – carry the following in the tube:
-Safety wire
- zip ties small & large
- night glow sticks
- wrap the tube with duct tape and electrical tape for use as necessary
- lighter
- razor
- sewing kit
- dental floss

first aid kit

advil / tylenol

Emergency food – granola bars, sealed bag of tuna, etc.
update tool kit with various metric sockets, torx, 3/8ths driver & extension - other tools commonly used.

tire repair/inflation kit

spare quart of oil

2 pair surgical gloves

small tarp

20' of rope

other tips include:
- always have cash and spare key on the passenger
- leave copy of itinerary with someone at home
- printed directions, travel atlas, gps
- get a lanyard & sheath for cash, DL, credit cards, insurance, etc. no wallet - wear it around your neck under the jacket.
- carry surgical gloves

I didn't list the obvious like cellphone and personal protection projectile accelerator if you choose - what else am I forgetting?

Rain gear.
Clear glasses.
Something to clean your visor.

You mention surgical gloves alot. I pray for your passenger.

Sorry Cap'n... ye canna get very far. Without the Flux Capacitor, ye canna process the dylithium crystals which are needed to power the warp generators to negotiate the anal vortex.

i always carry a can of plexus and microfiber towel onboard which has many uses.
rain gear is a check - always keep pants onboard and the jackets are scotchguarded over the factory water repellant, candlewax the zippers too.

The surgical gloves are multipurposed - greasy grimey hands on a roadside repair are difficult to clean and bad for gloves. Someone gets hurt or I need to perform a roadside appendectomy it's good to keep things sterile, rub some dirt in it and move on.

1400 mile r/t to the BBQ in September - just beginning to plan and organize.

How about Mechanix gloves instead? More sturdy, reuseable and probably better for working around hot metal on the roadside.

Got GPS?

I have Mechanix gloves but they're not sterile enough for the roadside appendectomy thing. Yes on the GPS.

In the unlikely event of catastrophic failure in the middle of winter the rope can be used to snare game, climb trees, tow the bike, lash logs together to make a raft - you never know.
