highly doubt it..

and if we do... its gonna be the super basterdized 250 out of the CBR250 that makes all of like 18-20hp (actually thats what it looks like it already has in it).

Now if they made a CRF250X / 450X street legal.... that would be awesome, i get ~ 32hp out of my 250.

All they need to do is reroute some of the street legal 250/450x's from Australia to USA... if only it were that simple.

Availible in Japan first and then the rest of the world later this year.

It is at least a step in the (somewhat) right direction, nd4

If they offered that as a 450 I'd replace my XR650L in a heartbeat

yup... uses the same motor as the CBR250R.

and this will tell you how its positioned in hondas line up.

"Set to launch in Japan in May and Europe in the summer, the 2012 Honda CRF250L replaces the CRF230L in Honda’s repertoire."

... replaces the crf230l .... ya no thanks... PASSS (in stock form)

It does look like it gets alright suspension (showa 43mm USD forks.... ~9.5-10in of suspension)

But again.... thats 2-3 in of suspension less... its most definitely NOT a nice dual chamber cartridge fork or a decent bypass shock in the rear... the frame is tiny... and the CRF250X makes 50% more hp...

This is not to say its going to be a bad bike, it sounds like it will be great for those who want a mild trail bike and want to toolie on roads. But a legit trail bike thats plated it is not.

It will be interesting to see what my buddies shop can make out of the CBR250R motor... they have a full track CBR250R in the shop for some magizine and they have been told... make as much powa as you can.

OH and this CRF250L weighs 61 lbs more than a CRF250X (both have batteries and lights)

Yeah, at the expense of top-end rebuilds.

Pretty sure the CBR250R engine was designed to go a LONNNNG time without having to change out the top end and actually go a decent bit before having to change the oil (can you say, more than 100 hours? )

haha this is true. i will say its a good motor [cbr250r] but cmon.... honda makes what 160-170 hp out of a 1000cc sport bike motor thats reliable as hell. /4 gets you 40hp....

if the crf250x's had more engine oil to play with then they would be fine on oil change intervals.

btw... my 04 250x... full original top end, only needed to shim the exhausts once... probably on the 12th rear tire, and you see how i beat the shit outta it in my dirt vids.

its just that CBR250R motor should make some more power IMO. its only at something at like 10.9 : 1 compression. they need to up that compression a lil.

Yeah I seen this bike at the last bike show they had here during the winter, Honda brought it and it looked good, until I read that it was a replacement for the 230L which means it's gonna be another underpowered Honda.

I really wish other manufacturers would seen the market for a 400cc dual sport bike, Suzuki and KTM/Husky etc are the only ones who seen to understand not everyone wants an underpowered (250) or a fat heavy (650) as a dual sport bike.

A reliable, easy maintenance CRF450 or WR450 dual sport bike would be sweet, but that's not gonna happen

the new WR450 commin out is supossed to be pretty nice... Fuel Injected, Green Sticker.... not street legal though.

One of my buddies has an XR400 thats plated here in CA. its like the perfect all around bike, a reliable easy maintenance motor thats good for the long haul, it has decent suspension and good power.

Yamaha actually has a WR250R out now that has about 30 hp at the crank, weighs 300lbs. It is fuel injected, has a 6 speed transmission and a hybrid aluminum/steel frame. Weighs in right at 300lbs wet. It is however surprisingly expensive at around $6500.

I bought the WR250X used which is the supermoto version they pulled after 2011.

Very fun bike to ride.

1000cc's minimum, please!

And make it a new motor much lighter than the Superhawk mill.

i guess... but i would really like to see a curent gen technology setup... one thats light with an aluminum perimeter frame decent dual chamber catridge usd forks and a good shock in the back. ... essentially if you took the DRZ400 motor and stuck it in a CRF250 frame.

its what BBR motorsports used to do (and still do to some extent) back in the day before the race 4stroke motors... they had all sorts of models that they would take an XR250 / 400 motor and stick em in nice CR125 / 250 alu frames with nice suspension.

I mean really its not hard for them to just change a couple of tabs on say a RM-Z250/450 and pop the nice DRZ400 motor in it. best of ALL worlds.

40hp? it can be easily bumped to 50hp. Making DRZ's power to weight ration almost the same as 919's - 0.2 or 5lb/hp. Or the same as 09 Lamborghini Murcielago, lol
That's where my DZer is now, 50hp at 250lbs. Now 60-65hp requires some major cash

exactly. if we could get a 50HP 400cc motor in an aluminum premier frame with nice suspension sub 300 lbs now we are talkin. a DRZ with some mods and time put into it gets damn close.

u got what an FCR, exhaust, and cams into it?

major weight loss starting with battery ending with front end(glass headlight, brackets etc) and bunch of other stuff in between

440 big bore, 12.3:1 comp ratio(yes, only premium gas now), FCR, cams, exhaust and 10.5k rpm E model CDI

ahh thats right you got the bigbore on it. it really wouldnt be hard for them to make a reliable 45-50hp 400cc motor... i mean if they are making 160-180hp in their inline 4 1000cc motors.... it cant be that hard to just remove a couple cylinders haha. I wouldnt mind a 80ish hp parallel twin 500cc

Thats one of the first things i did on my CRF250X... when the first battery died... i just removed it and never got another... its easy enough to kick... been tempted to get a starter block off plate but eh thats just extra money.

Sounds like the perfect bike for me then... I'm a total noob to off-road moto'ing, and have not the time nor the resources to be able to dedicate myself to the sport. Something like this would be great.

Also, I'm glad it's got a relatively low seat height for my vertically challenged frame, as most other comparable dual sports and even the DRZ400sm have seat heights that are far beyond comfortable for me when having having to rock my bike from side to side to maneuver between cars when i'm lane splitting at very low speeds.

either way tho, i can't wait to check 'em out in the dealerships:

^lawls.... lets stick a 450R next to the CRF250L... do some action shots of the 450R.

I will admit that the CRF250L is a MUCH better bike than the 230L that its replacing. and the 230 was a decent trail bike.... throw a pipe on the 250L PC3 and dyno it and you will make some more hps.

I will say though... the rumor mill has it that honda is gonna be doing something new for their upper end trail bikes (read crf450x... and possibly 250x) come the next couple of weeks.

I think this bike is meant to compete with the Kawasaki KLX250s that my wife rides.

Great bike, but a little heavy for beginners. Sucks that I have to keep coming back to help her pick it up.

She had the 230 offroad honda before this bike and loved it... I just wish I could have made that street legal (the street legal version Honda made was not as good)

Aww man, I really want this bike... I know it's not the highest perfmance dual sport out there, or the lightest, but it seems to be about the right size for me, and like it...

Honda's marketing is really working on me...

I don't imagine it requires any more maintenance than something like the CBR250R, seeing as how that's the bike they're sourcing the motor from. And like the CBR250R, it will be fuel-injected... thank god.

As far as being high-strung, everything I've read says that the CBR250R has alot more low-end power than the more high-strung Ninja 250, so I'd venture to guess the CRF250L will have similar power delivery.

oooh yeeahhh, think how fun this thing would be in Motard form...

the CRF250L is the same motor as the CBR250R.... its MENT for the street... so VERY VERY reliable... not high strung like the CRF250R/X 450R/X motors.

The more i read about the CRF250L the more i realize its the PERFECT bike for the segment its going after... a nice reliable long lasting fuel injected 250cc dual sport... ment for the around town cruise and off the beaten path riding. I think they have a winner!

and all of hondas off road inverted forks are gold.... how its always been

btw this pic

Dude is on the wrong side of the road on the snake.... shame on him... thats the downhill turn i wheelie out of going both ways haha.

And i hate to break it to ya leatherwings

but this:

Is not the CRF250L .... or at least the one thats going to be released.... thats looks like its had some work done.... but cool non the less.

Either way like i said... wait a month or so... honda is releasing something that has my buddies boss all giddy with excitement... and the three of us are all wanting similar items from honda... and he cant tell us damnit.

oh yeah, i know... it's for sure not stock... but it's representative of the Motard that i've wished for Honda to build... not that highly overpriced and underpowered CRF230M that they got. That thing costs $400 MORE than the KLX250SF... what a joke.

Either way like i said... wait a month or so... honda is releasing something that has my buddies boss all giddy with excitement... and the three of us are all wanting similar items from honda... and he cant tell us damnit.
hmmm.......

The more i read about the CRF250L the more i realize its the PERFECT bike for the segment its going after... a nice reliable long lasting fuel injected 250cc dual sport... ment for the around town cruise and off the beaten path riding. I think they have a winner!
Exactly.

Perfect for puttin' around the busy streets of LA along with the occasional casual offroad trail riding on some weekends. I'm sold.

Yeah, I guess 250's might be less appealing for those of you who gotta haul around your fatty mcfatterson all-beef patty selves...

if the CBR250RR is fine on the highway... this will be fine as well...

honestly i could probably have more fun around town on the CRF250L than my 919.

Im not exactly sure what honda is going to be releasing... but i dont think its going to be street legal.... we are hoping for a Fuel Injected 450 / 250x.

yeah, in all seriousness tho... the 919 is certainly much more entertaining out on the open road, but my SV650 is ~85 lbs lighter and much better for riding around in the city, so I would imagine the CRF250L, at ~85 lbs lighter than my SV, should provide plenty of grins...

I have the CRF230L. aircooled and bombproof. packed a bear 40kms out of the bush with it thursday night. great little bikes.

the new 250L is interesting, but is a little to modern for a true adventure bike. to many "fiddly bits".

I have just as much fun on my 230L as i do in my 919. 80kph on the 230L gives me the same rush as 160kph on the 919.
