You are wrong about that, nd.
They adapt to the street well as an old buddy of mine here in Santa Barbara did get his CRF450 mx streetized and does indeed ride it everywhere! It's been on the road now for years and he is one of the best riders I know.
The Ozzers have their shit together getting that bike and there is a damn good reason it's in that config down there.
That is the bike that should be here in this form and the SM format also.
Im not saying it wouldnt be a bad thing... but the 450X / 450R motors are just not meant for long term street use. Round town putting ya your fine.
Did he make any mods or additions to the oiling or cooling system. My cousin is a MX racer and was sponsored by Honda locally hear a few years back. All his CRF`s were terrible and about as reliable as a glass hammer.
.... dont make false statements.... the reason why so many people had issues with the race 4 strokes back in the day when they were first rolling out was due to the fact they road them like 2 strokes.... always high in the r's always banging off the rev limiter and they dont watch oil level / change oil regularly.
my 04 250x has a 06 crf250r cam in it as well as the 250r ignition timing (+1000rpm rev limiter etc) opened air box.... it also probably has about 500-600 hrs on it
. The only thing thats been done to the motor internals other than the cam swap (which was done purely for performance) is 2 exhaust shims as the exhausts were one .01mm outside the loose end of spec. Piston, rings, cylinder, all valves, springs, AND intake shims are ALL ORIGINAL FROM HONDAS assembly line. The head has NEVER been separated from the cylinder.
Some say i am crazy for changing the oil in it as much as i do, but as i have always stressed ... you are playing with LESS THAN A QUART of oil in these things, and they tend to use a little oil by nature of design and as such i change the oil about every 150mi of trail riding or 50 mi of track riding.
On another note, apparently sometime in September or around there honda is said to announce something regarding the 450x/250x.
I also wonder if these CRF250L's are in dealers now? i would really like to see a man about the horse!
