First time in the dirt for me!

So last night I pulled the trigger on a 2008 Yamaha WR450F! Its my first dirtbike. I have ridden quads in the dunes and messed around on a few dirtbike but have never really gone "Riding!"

Thats all going to change now. I was originally looking at a CRF450X, as I am a red blooded Honda man, but I found, after much exhaustive research, the WR450F to be a better bike.

It all pretty much started with the new girl friend. She rides a WR250F. (she just got a new to her 2007) Every other weekend she was leaving me to go be with other guys riding the trails then coming back telling me how much fun I have it is and how much she wished I was there.

Well, I have always wanted to get into dirt but the right time never came up until now. She has a good friend (now my friend) who is a salesperson at a local Yamaha/Ducati/Suzuki dealer ship. Got out of there with the bike, all the gear (I had none), and a few accessories for the bike (brush guards, AIS, skid plate, gear bag, etc) for just south of $9k. Not sure how good of a deal it is but the bike was only $500 over cost with no set up or freight fee's. The gear was $1300 and that was with the 10% over cost they gave me. Helmet and boots aren't cheap in the dirtbike world!

Hopefully I get to go on my first ride this weekend. Work may have other plans though as it usually does.

Here for your guys enjoyment is a picture of the girl and her new bike.
Did I mention she is also an instructor at www.2-fast.org

-Dave

Congrats on your great fun times! Great photoshop picture of the pro model sitting on the dirt bike. Please include a pix of your GF?

My 240lb buddy told me yesterday his WRF450F is so torque sensitive he has to be careful on bumpy sections not to gas it and get launched off narrow trails. I don't follow their big displacement jump from 250 to 450cc.

Congrats Dave - that's great!

You know already but follow your break-in cycle carefully, want those dirtbike engines to get off on the right foot. Buy the SM wheels and you're all set to run any track anytime!

You should bottle what you got and sell it!
Those babes are amazing too, but you upgraded to Miss USA bike instructor. Very smart of you to ante up for the dirt rides. Enjoy!

Congrats on the new ride. An excellent choice for trail riding. I do not know how many times I wished I had that headlight on my YZ. It might be time for a change.

Somehow I thought "First time in the dirt" was going to be a porno movie.

Congrats all around.

Congrats on the new bike though Evad, that Yammy should prove bullet proof and you have more fun than you know on it!

Went for my first ride today.

Couple of things:
  1. Wait longer after knee surgery before riding
  2. dress warmer when its snowing
  3. take a much more mellow trail to begin with
  4. get radiator guards
  5. get brush guards
Other than that it was a blast and I am hooked.

The Start

Brand New!

All pretty and shiny still.

A dirt bike should be dirty right? Not new no more!

Time for a beer!
