i cannot find words to express my excitement and joy.

the catch can blew a bunch of crap out of the overflow and exhaust all over the KLR so I had to wipe it down but it's just oily water or watery oil that pooled in the exhaust and vent lines.

Figure I'll change the oil tomorrow night and start it up again, take it for a ride up & down the street and change the oil again and then maybe once more Thursday also. Keep an eye on the water level and if nothing changes then I should be ready to hit the track this weekend. It's a good day.

Congrats Kev, now don't blow it up again! If you do just drill some holes in the ECU, that'll fix it.

One of the most gratifying feelings of accomplishment is when you assemble a motor and it fires up.

Most excellent and done in an impressively short time given the source for replacement parts.

Saturday & Sunday.
Spent this morning traveling all over town finding oil, specifically Motorex 10w50 synthetic.

The KTM dealer doesn't stock it. I found that very very odd because this service manual specifies exactly that oil. If one were to drop their bike off for service and not know that the factory authorized service center didn't carry the brand, viscosity or chemical formulation of the specified oil for a very finicky engine and not get the correct product, well I guess my expectations are to high.
When asking for oil filters the parts guy asked me what bike, to which I answered 525SMR, he then asked "who makes it?"... (uhm, yeah)
Then he tried to sell me on semi synthetic 20w60.

Did I mention this engine is finicky? Just another reason to service your bike yourself.

Worst case you can get away with 15-50 syn.

Cycle gear carries it the cheapest, if there's one close. In a pinch, - mobile 1 makes a comparable viscosity available at most auto zones...fully Syn $10/quart

all they have left now is quarts, I bought their last 2 gallons. Thanks for looking it up for and going through that effort. I was at their door before they unlocked it this morning.

Yeah, I know I can probably run all sorts of oil without issues, but for now after I've just spent all this time working on the bike I want to run the exact everything until I feel confident enough to experiment.
