BMW F 800 GS

I just saw this on the BMW website. Better than the 650's, but smaller and lighter than the 1200's. Looks like a great upgrade of the old Dakar. Depending on how it does off-road, it might be just right bike for me.

Okay, guess I'm a bit behind the power curve. Please delete the thread.

I've checked that out. Isn't that the one with the weird gas cap location?

Yeah, the tank is under the seat, and the filler on the back end, like the 650's do.

Looks like a nice ride to me. I was considering a K1200R at one point, in some ways I'm sorry I didn't do it. Maybe in the future if I can find a deal in a used one.

I love the concept and design, I just wish they would drop the price by $2K. Make the same bike to compete in the price range of a Wee-Strom and you have my undivided attention and I will have the loan paperwork submitted before close of the next business day.

That's what's holding me back too. When you figure in the cost of BMW maintenance, and parts replacement after the inevitable spill off-road, the $10,000 price tag seems a bit steep.

It does fill a niche, though.

The motor has a weird reciprocating balance bar that reminds me of a pistonless con rod. Most peculiar with a touch of German evilness if you ask me.

I wonder about its vibrations, but it can't be worse than a 9r...

If you don't like its high cost of ownership now, the euro hit a record this week 1.51/$...
