I bought a wrecked 600 f3 for $400. I already have a front end for it and all I need are headers, 919 rotors, and a radiator. Also have to weld together a cafe tail with a fab'ed up seat. If anyone has some spare parts that would fit and would like to sell please pm me. Thanks everyone!
Decided on a Copper tank with a hammered copper plate for the tale and a brown leather seat as the targeted design.
It's hasty photoshop editing but that's the jist of it.
Started filling in the dented tank with bondo layer by layer and have the 919 front end mounted. Still have quite a lot to do but having an ideal end is encouraging.
Cool project, I would like to offer my free of charge internet based opinion in one area though.
Don't spend any money painting that tank if you had to Bondo like that.
If it's going to be a black primer when finished, or sort of rat rod looking you'll be fine, but a good paint job will not be able to conceal a heavy bondo job.
If your paint guy says he can make it look right, he's probably the wrong paint guy for a good paint job.
Man, that looks sweet... Are you using like a copper leaf? I didn't even know you could do that with anything but gold... What kind of coating will you spray on it to protect it?
I used rustoleum clear coat to protect the copper. Also dremeled most of the tabs off, painted the frame, forks, and other bits. Pretty pleased with how it's turning out. The copper tail and brown leather seat will really set this bike off :wings:
Outstanding wood working ! As a wood worker myself, your hand carving skills are amazing.
Did you think about using zebra wood for the seat cowl with coats of polyurethane?
Thanks Loops,
Already had a log of Black Walnut in my garage. I would like to find some zebra wood for a future project and apply a different technique (will be cooler than this project for sure!). Will be testing a two part epoxy vs polyurethane to see which one is better for the tail.
