Vstar 650 troubles

So my mom just bought a pair of 2002 Vstar 650s a two different shops. After trailering them home my moms bike seems to be running exteremly hot. The Exhuast is to the point of being unbearable. The other thing is in neutral it idles fine, but as soon as you drop it in 1st the idle sky rockets and the bike wants to tear off as soon as the clutch is being let out.

I guess now its back firing like crazy...

then the other part is the second bike, also jumps in the revs, but isn't back firing.

any input?

Sounds like the bike is super lean. Is it new or used? May have a clogged jet or the wrong jets. I can't tell you why it is reving high when it is shifted into 1st. More info might help.

welp, tracked the problem down, I was sitting here 1,200 miles away trying to figure out what was going on and told them to check the choke... sure enough it was pulled 3/4 the way out, Doh! atleast it was a simple fix.
