Just bought my first bike

I was riding my brothers cbr600f3 for a while so it's not my first ride. But I just bought a 2000 honda shadow 750 ace deluxe with about 12 in. apes. It has 28000 miles. What do I need to be aware of as far as issues with this bike? If any. Thanks in advance.

Also it has a bit of pitting on the headlights, so I need info on how to get that off and the two outside headlights don't work either.

Congrats Spyke. Great looking bike. I like everything except the bars. I can't imagine riding like that.

The two outside lights may be switched somehow. Good luck sorting it out.

Its quite different from the cbr but maybe it'll grow on me. There is a switch on the bar but it does nothing.

I like the old school theme. I bet you will like it with some nice low bars much more.

I like it. Even with the ape hangers. You do realize that someone stole the back half of your exhaust?

No the ones that came with it (straight pipes) had a crap weld so I pulled them off before I lost them. Im cleaning the pipes up and maybe repainting them. Im not sure yet

From the looks of it those are the stock headers, correct? If so then I remember the muffler hanger was on the bazooka tube. That being the case, I would recommend some way of making a hanger for the pipes. That way you don't cause any unnecessary stress on those little studs holding the pipes to the cylinders.

Mine had 10" apes when I first got my '03 Shadow Ace. Replaced them with 2007 Shadow Spirit bars/ risers and made her a good looking bike! I also had the Saddlemen profiler seat to give her a sleeker look.

With apes-

With Shadow Spirit bars/risers-

Don't forget to periodically check the valves since you have solid lifters. I checked mine at 15k and 4 out of 6 valves required adjustment (3 valves per cylinder)

Thanks for the info. How hard /complicated is it to work on a motorcycle? I've worked on plenty of cars but never even touched a bike other than oil.

^Piece of cake, if you can work on a car, chances are you can work on a bike, plane, tractor, or bicycle. I think it's more of a mindset than anything else that allows someone to be mechanically inclined or not

congrats on the bike!

Weirdly, I like the look of ape hangers that size on a cruiser. I wouldn't ever want to have to deal with ape hangers on my bike, but I like the look. Nice looking scoot

No worries.. It's a honda. I have a 2003 750 Shadow and have had no issue. Change the oils & keep the chain clean, your good to go. I agree with K1W1boy - ditch the apes!
