Interesting. My '02 had a significant amount of stiction when I first got it in '05 with 7,500 miles on the odo, and it showed little improvement until it passed 40,000 miles or so, whereupon it started getting much more supple. Now at 75,000 miles it's close to the smoothest forks I have ever had the pleasure of using. I just wish I didn't have to wait for so long for them to bed in! I am just beginning to see a very slight oil trace at the top of the travel, but no evidence of actual leakage.

I will keep these in mind for the inevitable replacement, hopefully well past the 100,000 mile mark.

If it has already been done, it is safe to assume it is possible to do it.
On the other hand, if it has not been done never assume it is impossible to do it.

You may just slide a piece of old 35mm negative between the seal and tube and work it around. May just be a bit of dirt.
