Question What's a CB900f worth? (2002)

Going to look at it on Monday, 2002 CB900F in blue, beautiful shape. It's at a local Kawi dealer, not sure of km's yet but I do know the previous owner and he takes great care of his stuff. The bike has been sitting there for 2 years almost and nobody will buy it...... cause its not a "crotch rocket" or Harley .

Anybody hazard a guess? (in canadian funds)

This is the closest one I found, but I only looked for about 2 minutes.

http://www.cycletrader.com/find/list...A-919-94756253

This guy has a lot of stuff with his and it is a 2004. If I were you, I would go in with $2500 (US, I don't know the rate right now) in hand (given the details you have given). Maybe even a little less.

Good Luck!

Hey Sib where in Alerta are you? If you are close to Calgary send me a PM. I could go take a look at it. It would depend how many Kms are on it, for one. I bet they would want about $5000-$6000. The stealerships are always high priced. I picked my 02 up 4 1/2 years ago for $6300.

Ok. Blackbook and nada book are around 2000-2500 on it depending on miles. I can buy brand new for less than 7 grand out the door.

Explain to them that bike is a "albatross" sitting there for 2 years.

Cash talks. 2500 cash in hand should win. Be firm. And don't be afaid to flash cash and walk out. I bet they catch you before you get to your car

$2,500 seems very cheap to me. If it's in decent condition and not real high miles I'd pay up to $3,500.

Also, I never understood why people say "cash talks" when it comes to dealers. Why do they care whether you give them a check or cash? At least with cars a lot of times cash doesn't talk at dealerships. They would rather you get a loan through the bank that they work with so they can get a piece.

Well for the last couple years I was a salesman at the largest Honda dealer in the USA (rick case Honda David fl) then I was a salesman and finance manager at another local dealer here.

I was simply stating known values. Trade value on that bike is less than 2 grand not my numbers. Those are what the market brings..

And cash talks because it is practically impossible to finance a used sport bike.
Hsbc has pretty much shut down lending on used sportbikes.

But what do I know

It is tough to compare prices in the US to prices here in Canada. Your dollar is worth about 20% more than ours for one. We also make more $$$ on average than you guys do. For example, a new CBR 1000 sells for about $16K. One year old go for about $10K.What are they there?

I wasn't questioning your god like experience. I think the chances of this person walking into a dealership and paying $2,500 for a 919 is right next to zero.

I guess I wasn't aware that it was hard to get a loan at a bank for $3000 for a motorcycle. I wonder if this is just for certain people, certain parts of the country, etc. I'm pretty sure I could go into a local bank and get this kind of loan pretty easy.

Here an 09 CBR1000 goes for $15,500 and an 08 goes for $12-$13K (depending on the shape and Km's) they can go down to 10K-11K to

Barton's head is big enough already, any "god" references will put this totally out of hand.

I do think that he could get it for $2500 US or less, given it is 7 years old and has been sitting there for a very long period of time. By now, they are sick of it. And, it certainly doesn't hurt to try.

I'd have to agree...Walk in there knowing excatly what your intentions are and what your plannng on paying for the bike. It's been there that long. If they didn't make the deal with you right there on the spot, I'd be suprised.

If they don't jump at $2500 then tell them to keep enjoying their big, Honda 919 door stop!

I never thought that 2 years made me a "god".

I averaged 27 bikes a month sold for those 2 years and was top salesman for several months

What is your experience consist of?

I am sure with good credit you can get a loan from your private bank.

I am simply trying to help someone with a problem get something they want without him taking a banana up the tailpipe.

So does quoting your sales figures make you god?

I'm not trying to be a jerk. I'm just not of the opinion that if he can't buy the bike for $2,500 then he should just walk out. We don;t even know the details of the bike. Maybe it has 4K miles and is in mint condition. On the other hand, maybe it has 60K miels and a salvaged title. Just my opinion but I think the average 2002 919 is worth more than $2,500.

I have no sales experience. If you think he can buy the 919 for $2,500 then it has to be so. I just don't think any dealer is going to let a 2002 Honda 919 in Canada go for $2,500. I don't know that I've ever seen any 919 sell for $2,500 even in the classifieds but what do I know.

Wait here is one that you can buy for $3,100 and you probably can get it for $2,500.

http://www.cycletrader.com/find/list...B-919-93325339

It's not in exactly mint condition or anything

well then for a half hearted effort you are doing a marvelous job...

the whole point of my posts have been for his benefit... and seeing as you don't have "sales experience" that means you have never seen some of the absolutely retarded things a sales manager will do to move a unit...

i have seen a sales manager (lee at rick case if you wanna call and check the story) sell a 2008 honda vtx1300 for 7000 OTD.. (thats out the door ... as in after tax and everything) when they had just been released and we had 06's and 07's everywhere...

so the reason i said he COULD get it... because in a sales world... THAT bike you posted for 3100 isnt worth 500... (but if you are "smart" enough to pay their asking price then enjoy.... it is YOUR money)

and the nice 07 that i sit my fat butt on and ride to work ... the pretty one with 7000 miles and lotsa mods is a 3500-4500 dollar trade in!!!!!!!!!!

and if i was the salesman i would tell me i was giving me 5000+ for trade... and make the money back elsewhere in the deal... *(prep, dealer fee etc)....

now that you are getting a little look into the dirty dealings of a dealership are you willing to concede that maybe other people may know more...

and he is welcome to pay as much as he wants and walk out when he wants...

what i suggested is what I would do... and i am 80% sure i would get that bike at the price i wanna pay (or damn close to it) ~500 bucks...

hopefully you will gain some helpful info for your next purchase.. maybe next time you buy from a dealership and walk out you won't have given them the approx 2200 bucks profit they make on everydeal after holdback,P.A.C.,dealer fee, freight and prep, etc....

but once again all this was for the original posters benefit

i hope he found and purchased what he was looking for..

Wow, you do think you know everything.

#1 I wasn't aware that the dealers get holdbacks, dealer fee, freight, etc on USED bikes.

#2 You have no clue what I've paid for anything in my life.

#3 I agree that as a customer it's wise to not be scared to walk if the dealership isn't offering you a fair deal. However, I think your missing one thing. It's fine that you tell the person to walk out if they don't take his deal but no one is telling him what to actually do if they say no. Is $2,500 really the limit he should pay 2002? There must be a lot of crack heads on this board because I'm willing to bet about 95% of the people on here payed more than $2,500 and I've yet to see any used 919 within $500 of that price that has a clean title and less than 50K miles.

I paid $4000 out the door at a Stealership for a 2003 with 15,000 miles and a very small ding on the tank. Other than the ding....it was in perfect shape and extremely clean.

Amazing the deals when you know how a dealership operates.

Called them a few hours ago, and I guess he's still trying to find the bike? Waiting for his call, then i'll drop by and check it out. If they are asking some ridiculous amount I won't even bother, if its reasonable I will try and see what kind of a deal we can setup.

I know the bike was in excellent shape when traded in, but who knows in the 2 years that these guys have had it.... around this town good deals are hard to find because everybody makes good cash here (oil an gas industry), so a lot of people just pay what they are asking. On the other hand they've had this Honda door stop at the Kawi dealer for awhile, it's a toss up.

I'm passing up staff pricing on Suzuki's because i'm cheap I guess lol... Firedave keeps letting me ride his '07 919 so that doesn't help! Oh and I just heard from work that they are buying a fullline Honda dealer in a neighboring town... but I still don't want to spend that kind of cash.

I'm probably one of the most indecisive people around here..... just ask Firedave. I WANT ONE OF EVERYTHING!!!!

I'll update this later today.

And stop fagging up my thread!

Where did I say that he should pay what they ask? So if he can't get the bike for $2,500 should he just walk out of the dealership and never come back? Should he just give up on 919's all together? What if the 2002 919 has 10 miles on it, should he walk out if he can't get it for $2,500? I just think it's not real wise to tell someone they should be able to get a bike for $2,500 when you know NOTHING about the bike besides the fact that it's a 2002. It could have 10 miles or 80K miles, it could have a salvaged title, it could be painted pink, etc.

I assumed most people on this board, besides you, would understand that I was being sarcastic when I made the crack head statement.

BTW-I paid full MSRP + $2,000 for my 2004 919 when i bought it from a dealership in Florida. The salesman's name was barton664 and he was such a good salesman that I thought he deserved the extra $$$.
