Valves (again)

Yes. I have read the sticky thread. My situation is this. There's no way I'll get to the first inspection point before my ext service contract is up. So. Do I bear the resposibility of doing it myself when the clock goes *ding*? Or, do I start saving for 100$ per hour shop time. And. What does the service manual say this task "should" take timewise.

If by extended service you mean extended warranty checking the valves is not covered anyway. It is not hard to do yourself. It might take 3 hours the first time but 1 hours is more like it. The only hard parts is sliding the valve cover out. Taking off the left side pcv assembly makes it much easier and slide everthing out the the right. Loosen the top side of the radiator and take off both coil packs.

Out of curriosity. How many people actually needed a valve or two adjusted? My bike has 54k on it and the valves have always been dead on.

I had a loose exhaust valve and needed to re-shim. I'll admit, it was only like .001" to .0015" out of spec and probably would have been OK to run, but I'm funny that way and felt compelled to go further and put it right.

I plan to die young, as late as possible.
