Trip ODO reset while starting

Anyone had this problem? It happens when I try to start the bike and the starter hangs up. My guess is the starter is loading and draining the electrical system so much that the computer that keeps track of that resets. The battery is new so I don't think it's too weak to turn over the motor. Usually when it hangs up I'll give is a second try and it fires right up.

There is a trickle charger installed on the bike but I don't see how that could cause a problem.

Not on the 919, but my Superhawk started doing it at the beginning of the year. Original battery in a 2001 bike. Replaced the battery and it hasn't happened since.

Not sure what you mean by starter hangs up. But I agree, anything that loads the electrics will reset the trip odo.

If the starter is not turning the engine over despite having a good battery, I would check the wiring carefully, you might find a loose connection or a worn spot thinning the wire too small to carry appropriate current. If all the wiring is good, begin to suspect the starter, but definitely start with the wiring.
