Yep it's nice and toasty today, bright sunny bluebird skys and the thermometer is reading 59.7 degrees. I'll be heading out and put a few more miles on the trumpet and take a big ol breath of fresh air as it's been either to cold or raining these last few days for me to get out.
So, catch y'all later, I'm gearing up and hitting the road!
It was a great ride over to Lake Marion. The lake is way down due to the drought were experiencing, you might of seen the stories on the news about the lakes around Atlanta. Our reservoirs are extremely low also and it makes it easy to walk the old lake bed along the Cooper river and look for Indian artifacts. I found remnants of old pottery today, no arrowheads today. My wife's uncle has many arrowheads and several spears tips about the size of an adult fist.
The local expert says the pottery I found today was brought over from England and was from the 1800's. He was interested in one particular piece that had craving etched into it. He told me that it was likely pottery from the Eutaw Indians who lived in the area.
A Good Day indeed! I go out there often in my spare time and have a whole back porch full of stuff from these fertile grounds.
Where around Lake Marion were you riding? I'm considering heading to that area from Columbia, and just wondering which part of the lake is worth riding around?
Howdy, I'll usually ride over to Eutawville and make my way over to the Frances Marion National Forrest. Most of the time, I'll burn up the morning just exploring the roads all around the Lowcountry. Ya know, just to find out where they lead to. Many times, your the only one on the highway for miles.
Cell phones don't even work where I ride.
I've been thinking about making a trip up to Columbia on the bike to visit with one of my sons while he is still in school at USC. He'll graduate from the Moores School of Business this coming May. Maybe during the Gamecock's baseball season to see that new stadium they've built.
Oh yeah, if you do ride on down around Eutawville and it's a Friday or Saturday, don't forget to stop in at Sweatman's BBQ for some damned fine smoked hawg. I know there's Piggy Park up there but I believe this place is a touch better.
