Exclamation Tail Light is dim.

Hey guys I have a 2003 honda 919. I looked at my owners manual and try to see what size light bulb i needed. It said 12v 21/5 w. Which didnt make sense to me so i took it apart and realized that it was a bunch of small light bulbs. Ive tried googling new tail lights. All I see are custom led tail lights but not the actually tail light part number or size. What is the part number or size? It shines bright when braking. thanks for the help in advance!

You probably have a crappy brand LED taillight. You could swap it back to stock, which is probably brighter, or get a CustomLED brand light, which are VERY bright.

2002-2007 Honda 599 919 Blaster-X Integrated Tail Light Custom LED

FYI, they also fit the 599's. Dang fine units.

Thank you. Its weird that custom is cheaper then stock. I've invested quite a bit into this bike and I've only had it for a few months. Would the clear tail lights be fine? They are cheaper.

What?

Pretty sure the custom they are speaking of runs $100+. Whereas a pair of bulbs is more like $7.

if you love your motorcycle, set it free.. if it comes back and hits you.. you highsided

Easiest thing is to pull the bulbs and take them to an auto parts store to match them up

Here is a link to the stock/OEM parts diagram.

Honda Motorcycle Parts & ATV Accessories OEM Dirt Sport Bike Scooter Cruiser Touring Parts Off Road Motorcycles ATVs Starter Motors

The stock tail light has two bulbs (#10 in the diagram). They are only a few dollars each. They are a wedge base bulb. You can get them at an auto supply store also. It is a 7443 bulb. Here's a couple links:

I upgraded the stock bulbs to LED, they go straight into the wedge socket. Good and bright, though not so much brighter on 'stop' than 'tail.'

Two-minute job, cost $40 from the auto parts store (but everything's expensive in Australia). They said I had to get red b/c they are so bright a white light would wash out the colour of the lens and appear pink!

Similar to these.

I got them the day after I saw a bike in the rain - it was almost invisible from behind

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of upgrading to led, if other drivers can barely tell when you are on the brake. I'd prefer stock bulbs over that.

The change is noticeable, just not as pronounced as going from 5W to 21W (per stock bulbs). Maybe more like going from (say) 20W to 30W (equivalent) - so brighter overall in both states. And certainly more visible in 'tail' mode where the majority of riding is done, and exactly my motivation for the upgrade. If anything, maybe drivers will mistake my tail light for a brake light and hang back

I'll try for some pics next week.

The guys before me put these LED lights on. So that is why i needed to know what light bulb size I needed to get at walmart or a auto store. Because I had nothing to compare it to. I put the $5 lights that a few of you suggested after getting the size. And they work! One day I hope to get LED tail lights but for now I dint have the money. Thanks for the help guys.
