Smile Sweet!!!

THE 919 IS A SWEET ASS BIKE!!!!

The ride home yesterday is what this "thing" we love is all about. Slight wind at my back, cool temps w/ a beautiful moon.

FANTASTIC!!!

Peace and ride safe.

You know, I've never notice the so called "stink" I seen mentioned at length on this site. Perhaps it's because I'm so in awe of the performance and fun that it really doesn't both me none.

My better half rides w/ me on weekend jaunts and she has never once complained, but then again she rarely complains about anything........and that's a good thing.

So what is the real cause of the stink?? Is it:
inferior gas,
after market exhaust systems
Stock exhaust not extended enough

Just ckecking.

The only stink I ever smell is caused by inferior burritos.

It's being talked about a lot here.

You're lucky!! Mine smells so bad that people around me at red lights have put their windows up. My back-pack smells so bad that it stinks up my office! My jacket isn't much better. When I warm it up in the driveway it stinks up my garage if the wind is right and my wife can smell it in there for a long while.

It all depends on the wind. If I'm at a stop and there's a tail breeze, I'm getting nailed with it.

Different gas makes no difference on mine.

I guess it adds to the character of the bike...

I've ridden two other bikes behind someone riding my 919. I can smell the exhaust when I am behind them. Rich running mofo.

Positives:

Unique look. The 919 always gets double takes from cagers and riders, especially because mine is gloss black which everyone knows is the fastest.

Super comfortable yet easy enough to get into a tuck for the twisties.

Great motor with always-available power from idle on up.

Nice handling for a bigger bike.

Harley-guy always waves because of the big round headlight, the lack of plastic and the confusion that the bike causes.

Sportsbike-guy always waves because they zoom in on the cool tank and the exposed inline-four plant.

It has character. There are some classic elements and modern elements that really work well together. Sure, the look is somewhat dated but it's awesome.

Great value. It's a hell of a bike for the price.

It's a hell of a lot of fun to ride and really versatile.

So, I'll take the stink to have all that!

+1

I have owned a lot of bikes and the more I ride the 919 the more I like it. Usually it is the opposite, the more I ride a bike, the more I pick it apart.

That it is!

I cleaned my helmet the other day and noticed soot.. freekin' SOOT!... on the back of the helmet. I can also see it on my jacket, the tail section, and the mufflers. I will think twice about another bike with a high exhaust.

On the up side, plugs don't look bad.

Where are you in Miami Carib? I thought I saw another 919 going north on the Palmetto expressway last week. The dude was wearing one of those orange DOT style safety vests - was that you? Did you notice another 07 with a Givi trunk and a 99 lb Brazilian backpack?

My bike's exhaust does smell. I only smell it if the wind brings it forward or if I'm backing out of a spot. I also smell it in my house since I park inside. I kill the bike outside then roll it in but something lingers and tends to rise to the second floor because I can smell it when I go upstairs. It fades fast so is not an issue - kind of cool to have a place that smells like gas.

I have new Leo pipes that I've not put on yet - will be interesting to see what they change if anything.

Stink free 9er here. The only time I've noticed it was on a panic stop and I think I hauled the brakes on so hard that I actually went backwards in time a few seconds and ended up riding through my own exhaust fumes.

True story - I'd post a video but they do not capture time travel.

What stink ? What are you people using for petrol over there ?
Send me a stink sample in a jar and I will get it analysed for you. (No farts in jars allowed)

My shit don't stink. Single slip-on w/ no power commander puts the bike in a sweet spot air/fuel wise.....have even dyno'd it.... its pretty darn close.

+1 ----- left work early today and hit my favorite road. Out of 15 bikes......this so far is one of the best i've owned.

Wow what are the chances that I'd spot another WT guy riding a 919 in a place like Miami? I live in Coconut Grove and work as little as possible. We'll have to do happy hour at Flannigan's or Berries one day when you get off. Although...Playmates has a much more entertaining happy hour.

Sorry to rip on the vest - you're not working the construction along Bird Road are you?

What about one of those Thursday nite bike gatherings @ 104 street and US 1? Pick a Thursday.

Unfortunately not working the Palmetto Improvements, at least I'll be busy. No worries 'bout the vest thingy. Just covering the bases to make sure the cagers have a better chane at seeing me.

Since my service 2 weeks ago, I have noticed an oily stink / stronger fumes when I stop, surely this can't still be spilled oil burning off from the headers (unavoidable) (I use the bike everyday).

I use the tinfoil trick mentioned by others here and not a drop is spilled. How much did you spill on them?

Anything different in this service than previous services? Have you stuck your nose around to try to trace it. It should be easy to pinpoint where it is coming from.

I drained the bulk of the oil, before loosening the oil filter. I have done this before no problems. I wiped the majority of it with a rag and there really wasn't that much spilled on the bottom part of the headers. I would have thought that 10 later of riding in moderate weather, that any left over oil would have burnt off ages ago.

I have just noticed the smell the past 2 mornings when coming to a halt at the first stop street, same yesterday afternoon when stopping at the first set of lights after leaving work.
