Steering Stem Socket

What size is the nut on the steering stem? I want to remove mine to install the headlight bracket, but don't know the size and don't really want to spend $60 or whatever it is for the Honda tool.

Any tips on removing the upper clamps?

1.0625" is about 27mm. Not sure about the 03 but my 02 is 32mm. There are no special tools needed to remove the top clamp. The axle nut is 27mm.

For future reference, the stem nut is actually 30mm. Got it off today, it's pretty easy with the wheel straight
