Seat / Key Stuck.. HELP!

I was removing the top case mount for my Givi rack and when I put my seat back in (with the key in the lock) the seat locked into place but the latch must have shifted because now my key is stuck and I cannot get the seat up.

I am freaking out... dont want to break off the key in the lock. Has anyone had this happen to them??

Hopefully someone with more experience with this will chime in shortly. Here's the only thing I can think of right now, and it might not work...

You should be able to remove the tail light to gain access to the general area. I don't remember if just the lens is removed by those two screws, or the whole light assembly. If the whole assembly, then you should be able to 'unjam' the mechanism by going in this way...

I had to sometimes push down pretty hard on the seat sometimes to free up the lock where the key would turn. I had a corbin though. if that don't work brevity's remark should work hopefully and I believe someone else had this trouble do a search and see what turns up.

Same thing happens with my corbin. Try pushing down hard on the back of the seat and turning the key. Until the seat wore in a little I had to turn the key pretty hard.

Solution

I did the exact same thing when I installed my Givi Rack. The small lever on the lock has shifted out of position. I just took off the tail lens, popped the bulb socket out, and inserted a flat screwdriver to release the mechanism and then reinstalled the plastic cowling correctly. Nothing to it.

Cheers!
