Rhythmic ticking

I hear a ticking sound coming from the direction of the engine. I can hear this noise when accelerating and when cruising. From the pattern of it, it sounds like its just the thousands of tiny explosions that are making my bike go, but I didn't notice this sound before...

i just got my first 919 only a few weeks ago, makes a bit of noise when accelerating, presumably just like yours. I swear mine sounds like the timing is too advanced and the pistons are clacking, but everyone says its the injectors. There are a lot of threads here on it, haven't run into anyone that says theirs dosn't do that, and they keep going and going... so i guess its nothing to worry about, but i still want to see if i can have the timing pulled back a bit somehow, just to be sure. Anyone know how to do that?

You're only on your first one?

I figured the sound was normal but just wanted to check and make sure.

Its normal, I thought it was somthing bad when I got mine too, its not. The sound is the fuel injectors firing, most naked FI bikes make a similar sound, just somthing new if you've never heard a naked FI before.

Theres a ton of info on here about that sound

Glad to hear it's normal. I was a little worried too when I first got mine. I remember when I got my Triumph, it was the first time I had heard a three cylinder bike and I though something was wrong with that too until a couple dealers said it was a normal sound for that engine. I thought it sounded like a Mercedes diesel!
