You're starting at 80mph -- that's a no-no.

919 is a dog up top. Won't take much to beat a 919 from a roll.

Next time run from a stop.

The 919 is a hot rod, not a Formula 1 car. If you're gonna race a car, make it from a dead stop up to 60 or 100 mph. Anything above that and you'll eventually get caught and left for dead.

I got in the middle of two Mercedes racing one time on my CBX many years ago, at 120 the buffetting from the cars airflow was beating me up badly and they were still pulling away from me, I gave up!

I'd like to have been there. Maybe let him get ahead a couple cars to a buck 25 or so or whenever he looks nervous if at all, then slam it down into 4th and pin my black beauties ears back.

Now.......it might get me killed but I'm old and smell funny sometimes.

Starting at about 80-90mpg the lack of aerodynamics (fairings) starts telling on the 919 (and indeed, any unfaired standard). That's why the parent CBR900RR starts walking away from us at about that speed.

or maybe its because the 900rr is tuned for more top end? you really don't know what you're talkin about do you?

any bike when vs a car starts losing complete advantage at ~120 mph simply because the car can move through the air a lot more efficiently than a bike can (yes, even faired). by 140 mph, the car is completely favored over a bike. simple matter of physics.

No, actually, I do. The 900RR may be tuned for 'more top end' but at 80-90mph in top gear it is the midrange that's active and telling, and that's where the 919's got the advantage.

Another way to tell is 'gravity racing' - on a long downhill get the two bikes (loaded to equal weights) up to 80 and then clutch in. The CBR900RR will 'pull away' due to the more aerodynamic fairings.

i'm not arguing the aerodynamic effect. however, if you strip the 900rr down to naked form, it'll STILL pull away from the 919 simply because of the top end it has over the 919. its fact, look at the numbers.

is the 900rr a higher rpm machine...id think one of the 600 that redline at 17,000 rpm would of caught and pulled the car for a while...

300hp car could give a 919 a run from 80...........

500hp car would leave a 919 behind at 80 so bad it wouldnt even be considered a race.

My bet is you raced a non M, 6 series.

900rr was built for all out power and top end use, screaming to the redline as a track bike. The 919 was built/tuned, to get you around town without having to touch the upper rpms to get great torque/power. Sadly it falls flat up top.

Maybe I'm missing something on this, but why would anybody thats racing (900rr or 919), be running 80-90 in top gear.

I would think if you want to go fast, you get it to the peak of the power band as fast as possible, and keep it there. No reason in the world to go 80 in 6th (unless you enjoy losing).

96 is top of first gear on my 10r, measured 100% accurate.

Haha. I hear ya. Back in the day I used to have a turbo Miata with a HP/weight ratio in the neighborhood of a Corvette. Fun car. When the Viper was still new on the scene, I once baited one into a freeway roll-on race knowing that I would lose. Just wanted to see exactly how fast he would pull away from me. Pretty damn fast, as it turned out.

96 in 1st gear? That's just freakin crazy! Lol. Gotta get me one of those things one day. Maybe borrow yours, Bigdaa? On second thought, you're a renowned gun enthusiast . . .

Yes, it's fucking crazy. That does smack the rev limiter and it's a bit hairy going into second. My speedo healer is dead on the money. I know as it is based on a wide number of stationary radars plus one unfortunate mobile radar.

IMO drag is just plain boring. 5-10sec of adrenaline and hrs of number discussions.

I took my 300 HP sedan to ZDayZ and had a blast on 129. Didn't have a single bike pass me but I did have to keep pulling over to let the slow guys who refused to pull over get down the road a bit.

I actually enjoyed driving that road better than riding it.

Messed around with a 335i yesterday on 150 out in denver. went from about a 55mph roll. I'm sure he loved the smell of my rich exhaust as I pulled away.
