Power Loss?

Okay guys,

I've had my 9er for about 2 months and 2500 miles and have had no issues from it. Today, while riding back to work after lunch, it felt like it was surging while getting onto the highway from an on ramp. Probably was in 5th gear running about 3500-4000 RPM behind a slower truck. As we accelerated to an indicated 65 MPH, and shifted into 6th, it still appeared to feel like it dropped a cylinder then pick back up again.

My pipes are stock and I was wearing earplugs so I didn't hear anything abnormal. It just felt like it dropped off then surged back on. Only did this for about 1 mile, then stopped. As soon as I got to a good stopping point, I pulled over, pulled out the earplugs, and listed to it idle...sounded fine. Took off with the earplugs out and it didn't do it the rest of the way to the office (maybe 5 miles at most). I'll try taking the long way home today without earplugs to see if I can hear or feel it do it again.

I have my saddle bags on today which block even more of the exhaust note so that above 35 I can't even hear it running with earplugs in. I was trying to hear if it was sputtering, missing, etc but couldn't.

The only think I've done recently was adjust the chain, with the help of an experienced rider/mechanic and it seems to still be fine.

Any ideas on what it could be or what to check?

Forgot to add mileage. I'm right at about 17900 miles. I checked and changed the plugs about 1500 miles ago and they looked good enough to put back in but since I had already spend $34 on new plugs, I installed them. Last oil change was at 16,000 miles.

Could very well be bad fuel or moisture in the fuel.

Thought about that. Last fuel was purchased at Shell. It was so cold last time I filled up that steam was rolling out of the tank. I can go another 30 miles but will fill up on the way home. Thanks for the suggestion. Sometimes I overlook the simple things.
