owe so close

first time out to the drags in 09. i think if i did not have lunch my stock 07 919 might have went into the 10's. I made 10 runs from 11.30s to my best run of 11.06 @ 120 mph. temp was in the high 40s low 50s with a slight tail wind. I am 210 lbs ( owe so close )

Holy crap I suck! What kind of 60 foot times do you get? Care to share any technique advise.

Good job by the way. Do a wrestler diet for a day to get to 200 lbs and you'll have your 10 sec pass.

Do you race at Byron dragway? I miss IHRA. Cordova went to NHRA a few years ago and it's just not the same.

Oh yeah great times, you'll hit the 10's. good job!

I rather enjoyed that thread, it gave me quite a few laughs. I also came away learning that our bike's torque curve makes it easier to ride to potential and also that many sport bike riders will go to great lengths to defend their status.

^ Yes very true...I had a...yup, you guessed it, A cool dude on a lowered GSXR run me Friday. He didn't have the stupid MoHawk on his helmet though, I was suprised. He kept looking at my bike, I guess trying to figure out what it was. He was one car behind me in the lane next to me. I could see him in my right mirror. Light turned green and I was stuck behind old pokey in a van. I darted around and would've just accellerated normally but when I checked my mirrors I noticed the "Gixxer" boy darting quickly to get behind me...So I nailed it...All the way through 1st and 2nd gear. I let off after I hit 3rd cause that was plenty fast for where I was at and he finally went by after he stayed in it. I turned off at the next light.

Love the FZ1 but it's bringing out the Hooligan in me

Yeah I go to Byron. It's a blast to smoke faster bikes that lack the rider. I read somewhere here that the 919 would not run a 10 sec 1/4 mile. When I seen my time slip I knew it could! On the 11.06 pass the 60' was 1.77. Technique is strap down the forks, roll in the gas on the last yellow, and have the cluch cry Mary, speed shift at red line. Go through the traps in fourth gear.

You did us all proud, good job.

Completely bone stock bike or stock engine? No cans, no PC, nothing?

What gearing? Tire pressure?

MIVV Slip on...Air box mod. Thats it but wow is it quick after about 4000 rpm.

Needs a little gearing help and a proper map in a PCIII to get more grunt off idle

100% bone stock the only mod is a baffectomy. Tire pressure 28 psi. Last year I made 25 passes with best of 11.27. Yesterday it was very good air so conditions will need to be right to get into the 10's. 20 lbs would not hurt either and dumping in the Amsoil I have waiting on the shelf.

Nice effort, congrats.

Scan and post the slip if you can.
What was the tailwind exactly? (should be on the slip or posted on a website)

Round here, if the wind is over a certain amount, the times aren't allowed in some competitions.

Sportrider and others are a nice relative comparison, those who have been around a while have seen many timeslips with different numbers. Timeslips, not posts are the only thing that counts.

No offense, but trying to sucker some chimp into a street drag or winging down the interstate ain't exactly 'racing', just an example of one person willing to squid it up a bit more than another. Nothing to do w/ a bike's capability, eh? Just saying, since you brought it up and all.

Ahhh. Straps. I've been avoiding those things. I have a thing about going to tracks as I ride on the street. Its nut kicker. But now that I have 15t front sproket I doubt I can go quicker without straps. Most people here say itt will likely be slower due to wheelie tendancies. time will tell though.

What rpm do you engage the clutch at?

i've tried everywhere from 3 to 6 but 3500 -4000 is the sweet spot for me. No straps though. Anything above 4 and my 60' slow down. could be my pesky servival instincts kicking in.

I don't beleive it, but it it's true...CONGRATS! Maybe lowered with a jockey and more than a "slight tailwind" it would make more sense but I'd really like to see how the slip looks.

The straps make all the difference in helping to control the wheelie. I don't look at the tach when leaving the line. I leave to what sounds right. Working on posting some time slips.

Cool pic.

I'm trying to remember when leathers are required at the local track, in the 9's for sure, maybe even the 10's or traps over 125mph? I never had to worry about it..haha.

A couple slips will help folks understand how you're getting it done. IIRC Speedy was busting 10's back in 02 and posted slips, can't remember the details but might be in the archives.

If you've dropped almost a second, bet your 60' times are better than 1.80's to get there.

sometimes i wonder if my local track even requires helmets. I know they don't require leathers.

Heck, as long as a car as dot tires they never require helmets. I'd bet slick cars could get away with it but they never try. Don't blame them.

Looking forward to the slips. Always fun to do some armchair racing when its cold and raining outside.
