No mufflers = Crazy!!

I just got back from an extremely short ride with my mufflers removed, let me just say WOW!! The thing sounds like a hopped up chainsaw on n2o. I had to know what it sounded like without those massive cans before I decide to gut them.

Does the bafflectomy make the bike that loud or does the resonance chamber that the gutted mufflers create knock it down a notch or 2?

No but it depends just what kind of bafflectomy you do. I changed mine by removing all the insides then putting perforated tube and baffle packing inside. Mine sounds the same as a pair of race cans, similar to say a pair of scorpion cans.

+1

It sounds pretty good with the baffelectomy. Much more like the 919 should. Plus it's a cheap mod to start with. Can't go wrong.

Hey Mr.Jason, have you gutted your exhausts yet? Just wondering how it went/how you like it.

Gutting the mufflers is great. Don't leave the cans empty they pick up harmonics. The per'ed tube with the packing left in deadens those harmonics. Good luck.

I found the sound from the bafflectomertronicked pipes to be "just okay" and I'm happier now that I've replaced them.
Good mod for low dollars though!

I think the thing with doing the bafflectomy is to what extent was it done? If you do what I did you have in effect a pair of race cans - not much difference really in there construction.

Could you elaborate on this? I don't know what you mean.

the bafflectomy was great. Not so loud it bugs anyone, but loud enough you hear it always, and will enjoy it. I cant imagine that i would like the sound of sato's $700 more than a bafflectomy (that said i've never heard sato's, but thats why i said imagine)

what about removing the cans, and running some straight pipe out to the sides behind the legs, just after the Y? hmmm, that ought to sound... well, harsh as i imagine.. gut the cats and maybe flames will shoot out!!
