NEW CB1000R

Not sure if this is a repost (apologies if so), but did anyone see the new 2008 CB1000R? http://www.motorcycledaily.com/06nov...da_cb1000r.htm and http://sameerkumar.blogspot.com/

Looks like it's Euro only for now like the new Hornet 600 (of which I saw a few in Italy and Spain recently--looks better in-person).

it's nice, but I'm not sure if I'm totally into the look as I prefer a bit more of the classic moto lines.

Also on a somewhat related naked bike note, anybody else find the new Ducati Monster 696 a bit toy-like and derivative of the Triumph Speed Triple?

It has that Japanese "transformer" style trend with a "laser gun" nose. The single sided swing arm is nifty but the (ugly) wheel should be mounted with a race-style "center-lock" single nut (ala Triumph, Ducati, MV, BMW, etc.) instead of the 4-bolt set up. The MotoGP tail looks nice. I don't care for the overall design at all. But that's my opinion. Not as bad as the naked big Suzook. I like Ocool's version of the big naked Honda more. --- Though, the CB1000F may rip on the pavement.

"Luke, I am your father."

It has potential, but I'd have to get rid of some stuff, especially Darth on the front.

Yeah, I kind of agree. High-tech is cool, but in the right amounts (ie: the Brutale goes about as far in that direction as I'd like to see).

Anyhow, I have to admit the new Hornet 600 (which looks just like this one) is actually not bad looking in-person. But the new Hornets have a totally different appeal to me than the 919.

To me it goes a little too far into the star wars look. It's like that naked Kawasaki, too much plastic "decorations". Plastic is OK when it is doing something. That Kawi cracked me up that they used a tube steel frame and made a fake plastic piece to look like a frame spar. Total cheese. And this ain't much better. Don't waste my time making it look high tech. Make it function high tech.

Edit:
I may have spoken too soon. After poking at Ratdog's link and the 360 degree view my opinion of the aesthetics has improved.

But what about the frame and handling? I'm no duckhunter for sure but I can push the frame enough to make it wiggle. Add more horsepower and make the swingarm single sided? I can't help but think it is going to be even more wiggly.

The front end will take some getting use to but I like the look of the rest of it. I really like the gauge cluster.

I'll bet it'll come to the US after the 1st year in Europe. I think the 900 Hornet started out there a year or two before coming Stateside.

I'd have to put it on a new 9'er, since I sold mine about six months ago.

Dunno, I kind of like everything but the head lamp assembly. The single sided swing arm was an idea that I've kicked for a couple years, now Honda has solved that problem for me. If it comes ashore next year I may just have to bite the bullet.

Is there no in between? I saw a thread around here about the Tokyo show, all of the bikes were retro, not kinda retro flavored, but dang near exact copies of stuff we could buy in 1980. These bikes are a bit too modern looking, if thats possible. My main complaint of some of the Battlestar Galactica bikes are the strange exhausts, and the rear cowl seems to be getting smaller and shorter. If the tag mount has to be hanging off of a 3 foot long stick in order to be behind the rear wheel, somethings not right. What happened to balance and flow?

What's with the blue light thingy in the front. Reminds me of something really ugly.

Also that rear wheel better be a prototype only.

The tach looks like the speedometer in my '77 Buick.
The brochure lists the curb weight as TBA. WTF? Haven't they weighed it yet?
It's a nice bike. It should be a lot of fun if it ever gets here.

It looks ok. I buy stuff to use, not impress other people.

Give me a curb weight. Show me a dyno chart taken at the rear wheel. Honda does euro 3 better than anybody. Kawies, Yamahas, and Suzies keep getting heavier and slower. Honda's 600RR is evidence that Big Red has things figured out. The 600RR doesn't stink like the 919 does.

Weight and price will be deciding factors me if it ever comes available.

The best thing is, there's no flat black and flat grey paint in sight.

The bike definitely has potential, but I can't get past the wheels, exhaust cover (shield?), lightning bolt tank and radiator shrouds, and battle helmet headlight cowling.
I bet the bike is a blast to ride and undoubtedly performs better than my old 919 in every aspect, there's just a couple cosmetic issues I'd have to get used to.
The black looks sharp, the silver looks decent too. The white and the green don't quite do it for me. They may look better in person though.

I feel that I am one of those that Sir RD comments are directed at. I apologize for my absenteeism. But the #1 problem that I have is. I CAN"T EFFING BUY IT. I love it the look the bigger engine... its everything I had hoped for and would go place my order at the dealership TOMMOROW. No joke. BUT F#C#NG HONDA chooses not to make it available to me.

So skrew them. Im not gonna get worked up and exited about a bike I cannot touch let alone buy.

Ummm, yes.

Part of the problem is there are two threads going on this, can we merge them?

Just not enough details to get too excited yet. Need some hard numbers man.

Ignoring the fact I can't buy it, if it were coming in 08, here's what I would want to know:
I need to see a rear wheel dyno run. Give me torque and maybe a little more HP and I'll be happy.
I need an unbiased ride report. Better suspension front and rear doesn't help if the bit in the middle shimmy's like an obese bellydancer. I also care about silly things like vibration and comfort. I've done 900 mile days on my 919.

Basically the eye candy I can take or leave. Not enough to make me really want it or really hate it. The spec's are a big step in the right direction. But I want to hear from someone who has actually ridden one and ridden it hard.

He who gets T.W.O will be the first to know.

Tell ya what, Dog, everyone is in shock cuz it's such a radical departure from the plain jane simple ol 919. Give em a couple of years. It'll be the greatest thing since tits.
