New 919 Owner in Texas

i went and traded my 2012 Honda NC700x for a 2007 Honda 919. i wanted something with more power and didn't mind losing the "touring" feel of the NC since i was getting the power of the 919 and saw plenty of people using them for long rides.

i drive 150 miles a day to work and back and it just got no fun after a while. not the miles because that is easy but the not having any excitement on the bike really sucked.

anyways, i found a 2007 919 on craigslist that i ended up trading for.

the overall condition of the bike looked good so we swapped bikes and titles and i was on my way.

here is the text from the craigslist ad and a couple pictures of the bike: 07 cb919 clean title in hand clean flawless running bike has full hindle ex fuel programmer BMC air filter roller click levers renthall bars frame sliders Scorpio alarm fresh tires and a few other odds and ends few cosmetic flaws but nothing major.

its weird that there is the 2 brothers fuel programmer with the Hindle exhaust but whatever, they also used the t brothers mounting strap on the Hindle...lol. the exhaust also smells pretty strong so im thinking that the cat is either gutted or there is no cat. my wife said she could smell it in the house when i started it in our attached carport.

i'd like to add a center stand and was maybe thinking about a nice little windscreen like this: http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1976decc.jpg

i'd like to move the license plate back to where it was stock and i need to add a white light since that was taken off. the plate is up under the tail above the tire and i don't want the hassle from the fuzz about that.

anyways, let me know what yall think and any suggestions would be cool.

Hello from Midlothian, TX. Looks like you did good! I just traded in my 919 after 7 years of power commuting and do-it-all service. You're going to be very happy with your new bike!

Hello and welcome! I'd look into the 2Bros fuel programmer, you might not need it, and it may be adding fuel to an already rich condition.

What part of Texas is Mabank?
Nice bike, I see the sliders are in the right spot. Looks like a little powdercoating has been done (or paint at least). Does it have SS brake lines? Put grab handle back on, it makes moving the bike easier... And center stand is an awesome thing to have, I love mine.
Welcome.

Oh, and if you have any interest I would like to swap my black powder coated rearset brackets for ones in the color you have, or at least try it out to see if the color looks good on my machine,

150mi a day? I hope it is a great job.

I was visiting friends not too far away this weekend at Cedar Creek Lake.

I have an 07 with 18K miles on it. It's cut a bikini shield, center stand, engine cage, Renthal bars, and a Shad Topcase.

It is the only bike I never think of trading in. I have a Hindle exhaust on my F800ST and it's pretty loud.

Check out twtex.com if you haven't already.

Ride safe, those commuters suck.

I forgot to add that a pretty decent sized Givi case and rack was included. it has the rear brake light integrated in it. I'll get that all hooked up when I start using it to commute since I'm used to the frunk in the NC and having that space.

twtex.com is a cool site...im on there with the same name but haven't posted in such a long time. I took a trip to Guatemala on a Vstrom 1000 back in 2009 and I think I posted that trip report there.

Mabank is about an hour southeast of Dallas off of 175. I don't like the job at all but I need a paycheck and I grew up down here so I'm having a hard time leaving to move closer to Dallas.

I agree sharkey, the commutes do suck which is a small part of why I want something with more power. the have been a few situations where I didn't feel as safe as I wanted to because of the lack of power and ease of getting away from someone. the NC had a hard time just reaching 90mph and when it did, it took a lot of highway.

Are those pictures of that bike legit? Because the head cover in the top pic is NOT from a 2007. I think you had some different pics of the bike before editing your post? at least that's what I saw on my phone, but don't see them now on the computer.

I hope the PO did not swap out the covers to make it seem like a 2007, and then swap/paint tins to the same agenda. Have you checked the VIN to be sure?

Here's hoping you just didn't get swindled. Also, gauge covers on 2007 were chrome, so if your are painted, that's probably a good sign. But if they came stock black, then either your bike is NOT a 2006/2007, or your gauges have been swapped and mileage is probably wrong.

I verified the vin and it is a 2007.
those are the only pictures I have, I took them from the craigslist ad but i'll get my own soon.
the gauges and headlight are all painted black. I don't really care for chrome so to me it looks good.
I took it for a quick jaunt this morning in the 38 degree weather and while speeding up to get on the highway, I gave it a bit of gas and it pushed me back on the seat.
so much fun, reminds me of the 999 I had in 2010 that I had to sell when I went overseas.

I think it's just the angle the pic was taken and/or the lighting.

I touched on the east coast in 2012 but not as much as I would have liked. For that matter I wasn't able to spend nearly as much time as I wanted to riding the west coast.

I used google navigation on my android phone and I usually get a detailed road atlas for states I plan to ride extensively. My new phone is a windows based Nokia Lumia 1020 I got primarily for the killer 41mp camera. I don't know how I like the navigation feature yet. Stay tuned.

Howdy from up the road a piece in Troup near Tyler. Funny story, I was mentoring a student who was taking a class I was teaching at a local Real Estate College and turns out the guy was a bookie. He was looking for a legit job to funnel his money and he took me to one of his clients restaurants on Cedar Creek Lake, a Chinese joint as the owner was a big gambler. Is it true that a bunch of outlaws live out on Cedar Creek Lake?
