New 919 Owner

Hey kids.

I've been a twisters lurker for a while, but I thought I'd jump in now that I've picked up a 919. It's this one actually, although I saw that thread post-purchase.

The bike is in great shape for 13k. There are a couple of tiny (pin sized) dings on the tank and the right rearset peg has damage from what looks like a lowside. It also looks like the rear brake lever is aftermarket (or at least a new OEM) based on it's "too shiny to be old" appearance. Other than that the bike is in perfect condition. It also has a set of lowered Renthal bars that work really great for me (6'1").

I've been riding it around most of the weekend and am just about in love. I come from a Rebel/G-Wing/dirtbike background so the improved power delivery and handling have been a nice "surprise". I haven't done a lot of long-distance stuff, but I think a windshield and maybe a Sargent will make this a good bike for weekend trips.

Anyway, just thought I'd poke in and say hello. So far I've learned a huge amount about the 919 from this board...so thanks. I typically do all my own maintenance and having read quite a bit here I feel fairly prepared to work on this. I guess we'll see how the 16k valve check goes!

Here she is, cell phone style:

Welcome to the place.

Valve check isn't too bad. The hardest part for me was getting the cover back in place while trying to keep the gasket attached. Other than that it's pretty straight forward.

Welcome to WT. Since I almost helped you out on the purchase, you're now honor-bound to buy my F-18 screen. I just bought a used GIVI from a fellow WT'er that I'm about to install.

Seriously, if you are interested in my F-18, just send a PM. I'll probably post it in a couple days, regardless. Other than that, enjoy the ride. I have.

Ha...coincedentally, I've been looking at an F-15 or F-16 touring. I wonder how much different the 13" F-16 is vs. the 11" F-18? Which GIVI did you get?

Got the GIVI 240 used. I liked the F-18 just fine. Knocked the wind off the chest and no helmet buffeting. Nice thing about buying used is that you can turn around and sell it for what you paid if you don't like or, like me, just like change once in a while. You could even swing by and pick it up to save shipping! (How's my sales pitch? Been a while.)

After it's all said and done you should have about $3500 wrapped up in it. You know, after you paint it flat black.
Welcome CGS!

The more I see the the green one, the more I like it...very rare around here. Plus there is a secret warehouse in Tennessee that has THOUSANDS of unsold 2007 red-only California models...cuz Honda ships them to Tennessee for sale in California...or something like that...It makes sense to SOMEONE !....BTW....WELCOME FROM BEAUTIFUL SOUTH CENTRAL ARLINGTON, TEXAS !

THe F-16 Touring model vibrates a LOT on the Interstates here (20 & 30 & 360)...it keeps the blast off the chest but does NOT keep buffeting off the helmet ! (because its bouncin around too much for a steady flow of air) I like the looks of it on my bike and I don't have the money to spend on something more substantial...

I just picked one up two days ago on the cheap...I have yet to install it. We'll see I guess.

I moved south from Kansas cause I can't deal with the snow. Gotta have my sunshine. We got down to a "breezy" 28F today. Definitely don't miss that Kansas weather.
