New 919

My son kept coming by to use my 919 when he wanted to ride 2 up with his lady. Said his FZR wasn't comfortable with a rider. So today we picked up a 2004 Uranium 919 for him. 12K miles, power commander,D&D cans and new tires. All for $3200 the only marks on it are on the clutch cover where it fell over, marks go up and down so it doesn't look like it was moving when it happened...............I know pictures.......they're coming.

Great find and purchase! The matte uranium is a very unique color, so unique that I may have to paint my car that color one day. Not something you see everyday especially from Honda. The defining finish that helps the uranium is the eggshell clearcoat.

Here's a couple of shots, it has Battlax 016's on it are those any good? The drop type bars wreck havoc with my wrists and shoulders, all in all so far it seems like a pretty good buy.

Bike looks good, & sounds like a good buy....

....is that a Merkur in the garage? I thought those were completely extinct!

Yes that's his Merkur, we found that in LaCrosse, WI. with only 42K miles on it.
Been doing a little work on it, you know, belts , water pump , timing belt and alternator. He wants to paint it the same color as his new 919, I'm trying to convince him to leave it be as the condition is excellent.

Don't want to steer your thread in the wrong direction, but the Merkurs have always peaked my interest. I've heard the build quality was pretty suspect on them... & that they leak as much as a Harley.

This one seems pretty tight, think most Harleys would be jealous. Hardly leaves a puddle when it's in the garage. Runs rather strong and doesn't feel its age going down the road.

Wasn't the sport ergo's on the FZR part of the problem for 2up? Is he going to keep the drop / clip on bars?

Being a youngster he will probably keep the drop bars, though they are not as low as on the fzr. I think the 919 is a little longer ( have not measured yet ) plus the rear pegs do not appear to be located as high up on the frame.

If it were mine I'd instantly go to a different bar, ever try to tell a youngster what to do?

i sold Merkurs in 1986 and 7. had a 87 demonstrator white 5 speed w/ grey leather and sunroof. it's a 137 mph car. i promise. also, powertrain is basically turbo t bird/svo mustang with the old pinto based 2.3 and beefed internals. you can make a LOT of power with those for not a lot of money ! and they held up pretty good. rock on.
