Naked Rack

I'm looking for a removable rack for the 919. Something that can replace the rear grab rail for a long weekend trip and then come back off for the naked look when it's not needed.

I've see a few pictures of the Ventura rack on 919.org, and was wondering if anybody has comments about how it works. Or, what other racks you guys have experience with for the 919.

I expect to get some grief for even thinking about goofing up the beautiful looks with a rack, but I'm tired of straping stuff on the seat and having it slide all over.

Ventura works great. Not cheap though. I was really looking forward to seeing a "naked rack" when I saw this post. You've disappointed me...

Rack it up. I love taking long trips with the 919.

I've got the Ventura for two of my bikes, one being the 919. They are a great product. You can face them different directions, they have a lot of bag options, and if you buy a package you usually get a tall back rack and a sport rack.

The bag isn't on here, but I had it facing forward setting over the passenger seat. You can also face it backward and carry a passenger. Install in five minutes, just remove the grabrail and bolt it on. That is my Superhawk with one also. My bud was on the 9er in this pic. That's his Marsee tank bag. That thing will expand to the heavans. I run a smaller one on it.

typhoonblue,

It's a Givi A755 screen. You can order off the net. I got mine installed from a vendor while at bikeweek in Daytona. Nice thing about them is they come painted to match, and the paint matches the Honda "asphalt" black exactly. I think they do other colors/years also. It also installs in about five minutes. Easy on/off.

I've got an SW-Motech mount that accomodates Givi hardbags. The side rails and top case mounting plate can be removed in 5 minutes.

Sport look, you can see the sw-motech mount on the tail

All bagged up.

I use the hardbags on long trips and take the bags and racks off when I get to where I'm staying.

Sweet Mudarra. I like doing the same with the Ventura. Drop the bags and remove everything except the mount. Nice setup you've got there.

Mudarra - what size and type top case is that? I'm shopping for a topcase and looking at Twisted Throttle's site I can't tell which is the best size. Thanks and nice setup.

i picked up a used Ventura package, std rack and sport rack

gotta say...one of the must useful mods for the 919...the underseat hooks are lame and the rack makes it easy and practical to haul stuff...and a tank bag and flyscreen and you can travel from jersey to texas, just ask 919maniac

i might cut loose a few 919 aftermarket pieces i have, but i won't sell my ventura setup until i part w/ the 919....if that happens

That's the E460 top case (46 liters). It holds a ton of stuff.
I pieced it all together the cases and racks were ordered through twistedthrottle.com

The pipes are Erions. They sound great! Wife likes the fact they use the stock forward heat shield.

Thanks for the welcome, I've enjoyed the site.

Yeah, nice country. I spent a week there last year, hub was out of Ashville. I like mountain roads. We still don't believe you were there.

I am looking into buying a rack for my 919, but was wondering about the Ventura with a Corbin seat installed. I see you have a Corbin on your bike. Is there a clearance problem with flipping the rack to face forward?

Also, is anyone looking to get rid of their Ventura setup?

Never tried to install it this way but I did just go have a look. Doesn't appear it would work.

I always face them rearward so I can carry a passenger if I need to. I usually run with the bag facing rearward setting on the rack, but have also had the bag setting on the seat.

I do know you cannot get the backrest on with the rack on.

The Ventura is a well made, easy to fit carrier,on and off in five minutes.
The only fault is the plastic bungs supplied to cover the allen key screws are too small so I just leave them off.
In fact some even say the bike looks better with the rack on (not me though the 919 is too pretty to disrupt its sultry curves!) so i take it off when i dont need it

Yes there is a clearance problem.

No, the Ventura rack will not work (faced forward) with a Corbin Lady Gunfighter.
Corbin does not currently make a Standard Gunfigher for the 919. (the rack would work w/ the std gf setup)

As much as everybody likes this setup, I didn't figure I would get any hits on one for sale, but it never hurts to ask. I priced the L-brackets and the sport rack yesterday, and even though it's a little expensive, it's comparable to other racks that are universal. I'd rather buy one that's made for my bike than try to make a one-off fit.
