My 919 (pics)

Joined up, and intro'ed myself several days ago. Thought I'd check in here and share some pics since it seems the place for the 919 crowd.

If you missed my formal intro, here's the skinny:
Been looking for a 919 for months.
Wanted either a perfect bike, or a deal on one I could paint and mod.
Found the one below. Dealer was asking $4899, got it for $3700.
2006
1220 miles
A few scrapes

Couple of tank dents. One on each side.

...and case scratches

Went to work on the case scratches. Sanded out most with 100 grit on a DA sander. Filled remaining scratches with JB Weld.

Painted with this. Came out a little to glossy, so I knocked off some of the shine with #0000 steel wool.

Finished. Color is a better match than the pictures let on.

Future plans:
Re-paint (leaning towards a medium too medium/dark blue)
Rear fender bob
Integrated tail light (just ordered)
Buell windscreen

I'll update with pics as stuff gets done.

Yes, nice job on the paint repair. I saw a 919 with a custom white paint job that looked pretty sweet. Might go that direction if I ever have reason to repaint the bike.

Excellent work! I have a 2007 and I have to say you got a super good deal on that one. I'd like to see the medium blue repaint. If I ever repaint my bike I was also looking at some kind of blue, gunmetal, or dark metallic green (green hornet!).

3700 looks like a great deal for a 95% bike. and judging by the work on cases you did, it will be 100% in no time, nice score

update

Just to update all:
If you attempt the side cover re-paint, skip the clear (or at least the brand I used).

I road the bike a couple of days after the repair was done, and the engine heat softened up the clear and made it somewhat shiny, and tacky again.

I imagine that it fill fully harden eventually, but I wish I had skipped that step.

Got my integrated LED tail light in the mail, and I'll be installing that this weekend along with a Vista Cruise throttle lock.

Sent off an email quote request for a quart size version of this paint kit: Viper Blue Pearl URETHANE BASECOAT/CLEAR Car Auto Paint : eBay Motors (item 190364020421 end time Feb-08-10 20:43:37 PST)
If it is available in qt size I'm going with this color.
