Muffler Extenders?

Ok guys, I have $36 in my bank account after buying my new 919. The stink is killing me. I need a cheap solution. I'm thinking about getting some extenders.

Can anyone direct me to an aftermarket part that would fit. Or maybe something to look for at the Home Depot? It doesn't have to be pretty. When I get the cash I'll get some Erion pipes.

:donatello: Hey look a ninja turtle!

Try buyin some better gas (as mentioned in other threads). Cheap gas has a high sulfer content and is most likely the culprit of the obnoxious odor. I could be wrong here cuz I don't know who you buy your gas from... but you have the same issue with cars that use cheapo gas. They smell like rotten eggs!

Just my 2cents.

Have you tried different fuel?

Seriously, it can and does make a difference. (ofcourse it might get worse, but it might get better even if only slightly)
Plus it costs no more to try it than you'd be spending anyway.

Do you mean a higher octain fuel? Believe it or not all the fuel comes from the same pipeline. Only the additives are different.

I'm using the fuel that they put in from the dealer. I just put in one gallon of Sunoco 87 to top it off.

I'll try some higher octain shell gas next fill up. Thanks for the tips.

I picked mine up at auto zone. Then had a local shop expand the end till it barely fit, tapped it in with a hammer and no worries. Most have just used set scews to hold them in place.

Oh BTW it did not help with my stink or so says the little lady.

Higher or lowers not the point.. Different.. that's the point.
(I'll studiously avoid the whole "pipeline" bit)

If your running 87, try 91 or even 95 . I'm not sure what choices are available in your neck of the woods.

I usually run mine on 91 which is "Standard" 'round my way.
95 is "premium"
Not even sure we can get 87 here in Oz.. anyone???

The topic of which fuel is best is one of those can incite riots, so I won't go into that other than to say that 98 or the "Optimax / BP Ultimate" is not recommended. Nor is any ethanol based fuels. (don't hassle me on this point, check with Honda)
All I'm suggesting is that different fuel even of the same octane rating but from different sources can make a difference.
Then again, if you're in the states, it may be different for you. err, that is to say.. your mileage may vary!? ... sorry..

For what it's worth, try letting the tank get low enough for the fuel light to come on (don't worry, unless you're more than about 30 to 50 miles or so from a service station you'll be fine), then fill 'er up with 91 (if you get that over there) and see how it goes then..
Ya never know!

The 919 doesn't stink you have a special model you best cherish it!!!

motocyco has a different end cap solution that i have done just haven't took any pictures yet. seems to have helped. Went to autozone and got chome tail pipe that turns down and made them fit inside the existing pipe. Left them really long to see if it would help at all. will take pictures and post them later.

I'll stop at Murrys on my way home. Would you happen to know the diameter I would need? Didn't bring my ruler with me today.

here are my pictures. I think i am going to take about an inch out of the length and try them again, but so far they have helped lower the stink not gotten rid of just lowered. These were chrome extension that fits up to a 2 1/2 in pipe from advancedauto parts. had to grind a little off of the inside of the pipes to make them fit but wasn't to hard with a die grinder. Anyways you guys be the judge and let me know Like them or not!!

I'm actually thinking of painting them flat back because of that, seeing if i can sand them with 400grit to give the same look of the stainless covers.

I don't think they look that bad. It's shocking at first because it looks so different. Maybe just lop an inch off and call it a day.

They kinda remind me of my dog when he gets a little excited. LOL

I'm tempted to cut my headers under the motor and put a small can down there. See the October issue of Cycle World to see how they did it to a ZX10R. It looks pretty rad.

PC3 and a leaner map cleaned up the smell and the nasty brown haze over the license plate on mine.

I just dont understand all that hard work to create that, and it looks awful.(sorry)
but if your happy with it, stick with it. I would think any aftermarket exhaust would help. I dont notice any stink with my 02 but I also didnt leave it stock long either. I put a set of ART slip ons and all is good.

You could always reroute the pipes to have dual straight up exhaust, and then you could put some of those exhaust caps on them. Kinda make it look like a semi's exhaust. The stink will be behind you and above your head.

If you are still experimenting, try cutting them 3-4 inches at the base, then turning them outwards. Should blow the stink outwards and right into an airstream.

I put in 3gal of premium Mobil gas and the bike is much less stinky. I think what made it worse before was my backpack. Maybe the fact that it was still breaking in too. I dunno, but it's much better now.

Gas is so cheap now I don't mind paying more. I saw $2.18 for the cheap stuff today! Woo Hoo!
