Track days at Barbers Motorsport and Talladega GP are a blast. I don't ride roads there but plenty of good roads about 40 miles to the north around Birmingham and North Alabama. about 4-5 hours away you get into TN and SC which have the best mountain roads. You will be close to sportbike heaven.

You're a hop skip and a jump from north Georgia. Motorcycle heaven. Barber Museum close by. Central and eastern Tennessee rocks also. You'll love it. I'm not sure of "local" roads you can ride on a weeknight, but your weekends will be splendid.

I grew up in birmingham. Not too far from Tuscaloosa. The northeast corner of alabama is probably some of the best riding in alabama. places like mentone, little river canyon, around lake guntersville. there are also some good roads in birmingham on the outskirts of town. the ride to barbers is pretty fun whether you take grants mill or sicard hollow. there is another road popular to motorcycles called highway 25. Just a few places for a quick ride.

You have got to visit the Barber Motorcycle Museum in Leeds, only about an hour away. While you are there, check out Hwy 25 running south out of Leeds.

Kewl, will do. I just got back from a ride towards jasper. I turned off on this road called goodwater... WOW... It was pretty fun. 9.5 miles with lots of twisties. It's the first time I ever got to go around ANY decent corner or through the hills.. I loved it!!! And I only met 1 car!!! Here's a couple of pics I took this morning with my camera phone...

Cheha Mountain and Hwy 281 are also good, but a bit farther east. I used to enjoy taking that route on the way to North Georgia and the Chattahoochee Nat'l Forest. Hwy 60 north of Dahlonega is one the the best roads I know. Two Wheels Only Campground isn't far from there either.

^^^^^ Cheha Mountain is another great area, camped there before, and friends always go there.
