Moving on...

Not me, the 919. I've had fun on this bike, but it's never been the one. I really enjoy the journey. And try as I may -- one year, 5500 miles, pegs, seats, bars, ride positioning -- I can't get comfortable on this bike. My love for riding is spending a day on the bike and killing a couple tanks of gas. Just can't enjoy doing that on this particular bike.

Add to that, my wife decided she wanted to be a pillion from now on. She took the MSF a couple years ago, passed, got a bike, and hardly rode it. Fifteen rider fatalities in our area in 60 days this summer scared her.

So, I've been helping a buddy look for a bike to replace a 'Busa for the last month or so. I posted here about it. Next thing I know I'm driving out with him to check out the new Suzuki Bandit 1250S. He didn't love it. I did. Took the wife out to see it. She loved it. Research mode sets in. Great mag write-ups. MOTY Award for 'Best Bang for the Buck'. Beats a K1200R in a shootout last month. 64.5 lb-ft of torque at just 1,800 rpm, and from 2,700 rpm there’s more than 70 lb-ft available on up to its peak of 78.0 at 6,000 rpm, at which point it’s already spinning out 89.1 horsepower. My dealer has an ABS model in stock in metallic blue. $8800 bike. He'll do $8K out the door. I have two bikes to trade-in -- a 2006 919 and a 1994 Nighthawk. He says, "write me a check for $750 and we're good." Deal. Should be picking it up later today or Monday morning.

I spent last night in the garage stripping most of the 919 mods and returning her to stock configuration. There is a post for items for sale here.

I'm not going anywhere though - you can't get rid of me that easy! I'll be hanging out and no doubt boring you all to tears with ride impressions and gee whiz posts. So, here's a glimpse. More to come shortly.

Ken sent me all the latest Bandit links, I think he is trying to convince me to join him on the dark side. Here is the K1200r comparision.

The OLD Bandits were great bikes, and clearly Suzuki has done nothing but improve it. Congrats, I bet it's going to be a great bike for you.

That's what they all say -- stiffer frame, smoother motor, tons more torque everywhere, better handling, a 6th gear, and more. And ABS is a meager $500 upgrade. Amazing how much bike you can get for 8K these days.

Congrats Ken! I'm surprised by the results of the K1200R shootout. That's the bike I plan to buy next year. I may have to reconsider, and look into the Bandit. I look forward to your riding impressions.

OK, I'm taking bets on how long that front fairing lasts in it's stock form. The over/under stands at 3 weeks.

This guy in Texas has had one since early summer, all bagged out, and thousands of miles on it already. Why wouldn't it last?

I think he means how long it will take for you to start making changes to it.

Just dropped you a PM to wish you luck on looking for a new bike. Guess I was a little behind the power curve. Have fun with the new ride, and definitely let us know all the ins and outs.

LoL! You're probably right -- sorry mk -- I'm a little slow on the uptake today. Long night in the garage getting two bikes ready for trade-in.

The wife is relieved this is a new model. Not many mods available. But Dale Walker over at the Holeshot shop has it up to 115 HP and 93 ft/lb torque with Holeshot Comp 2 slip-on, Dale's Stage 1 TFI box tune, O2 bypass module, K&N filter, and an air box mod.

That steering wheel in the seat can't be comfortable!
I was looking for the Bandit before I bought the 919. I couldn't find one for the right price.
Have fun on that thing. Your gonna love it!

Looks pretty sweet! Guess that myth of the 9er being the perfect bike for all occasions for all people everywhere in the whole world just isn't holding to be true

Can't wait to hear your impression of it.

Couple the fact that the fairing looks a lot like the FZ units from the last couple years and your addiction to modification - just having a little fun with ya. Many people loved the FZ but weren't sure what to make of it's 1/2 fairing. Enjoy

I took the 1250 Bandit out this spring and loved it but liked the look of the 919 better. Also the Honda dealer has always treated me good and have heard horror stories about the local Suzuki dealer(Not very good service). Have fun on the new ride and keep us posted.

That would have swayed me to Dave. Luckily my dealer (who is fantastic) does Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha.

One bike is gone. One more to get out there.

That's a deal. I may even be coming through NC this Fall. Planning to take the new bike down to FL to keep at my folks house so I can get a couple Winter rides in, and then bring her home in the Spring. If it happens, I'll let you know.

The shindig at jet's will be in Nov. Maybe it would make a good trip.

If you want to see the foliage in the mountains, you'll have to go through around late Sept. and early Oct.
