lucky stupid ex co-worker

wow fellas heres a story for you.. as many of you know and few really care i work as a salesman in the largest full line honda powerhouse dealer in the usa.. ok we hire and fire lotsa salesmen and we get some real "caracters" well they hired a "kid" bout 19 or 20 who was the smartest human on the face of the earth.. just ask him.. he could fly rocket ships backwards thru a hulahoop.. anyway.. "kid" wasnt exactly what you called "comfortable" on a bike.. not bad on cruisers but on sportbikes looked like a cat poopin broken glass... well he decided he needed to test ride a gixxer we were taking in on trade and got him a good head of steam "approx 40 mph" at which time he thought it was a good idea to target fixate and freeze shortly before running into a chain link fence at above said 40 ish mph.. well he is one lucky kid.. a few scratches a few bruises.. and did 4500$ worth of damage to the bike.. did i mention rocket boy didnt have a helmet on... long story short... that is one lucky kid.. 10 feet in either direction hitting that fence and he probly wouldnt have made it.. 10 ft one way 500 gallon gas tank.. 10 feet other direction.. big cinderblock wall.... lucky kid... thanks for listening

Awesome story. A friend of mine as a kid worked at a Kawi shop and usually had about 1 really funny story each month. Have you guys ever thought about secretly filming some of the folks??? I'm guessing you can predict which ones will doing something interesting after having worked their for a while...

These are the exact kind of stories that I shake my head at!

These are the dumba$$es that kill the one passion that we all here share. If little genius Johnny know it all got injuried or killed. His mother, family and friends would start screaming and crying how dangerous motorcycles are! How they are death machines! How they should be banned! How the government must step in!

Sadly, even if dumbass Johnny didn't get hurt as in this case. Being the little fuknut that he is. He will embellish this incident to how he nearly got killed stunt'n on a Gixxer and you all should have seen him flying on this thing.

Thus, the story gets back to little dumba$$ genius know it all Johnny's mother, family and friends and the first scenario still comes to fruitio!

It's better to have loved and lost than live with the psycho for life!

Does your shop mandate that all sales peeps have a valid MC endorsement/license? Did he not have one, or was he just really "Stupid"?

Was his employment terminated, or was he too embarrassed to come back to work?

I read about some of the dealership horror stories some folks go thru, and then this. Makes me realize the couple of local dealers are not as bad as what others deal with.

termination eminate.. we are REQUIRED to have a dot approved helmet (which is provided by work) on at all times if your leg is thrown over the back of a running motorcycle.. and he is a smartass little punk that knows everything and after 3.2 minutes of talking to him you wanna beat him retarded ( which in his case you could do by thumping him with a feather)
this thread started not with anything the dealership did wrong (0ther than hire him) it is and was about a know-it-all who thought the 8 minutes he had been riding a bike made him a expert and then him doing something so mindnumbingly stupid that is is a miracle he is alive.. and he has NO grounds to sue because he had no business on that bike.. he was "test riding" it..

No disrespect towards your dealership intended.

My employer has hired an above average percentage of brain dead idiots that have no business cleaning toilets, let alone handle people's life savings.

Makes me appreciate the sales and parts people that I have dealt with even more.

Perhaps he will learn, but prob not. I had the displeasure of working with a similar personality many years ago. This guy claimed he was an ex Navy Seal, a former minor league baseball player, and former Chicago firefighter, along with a few others I believe. Yet here he was working overnight shifts stocking merchandise at Sam's Club. Nobody believed a word he ever said. 3 months ago I saw him loading those big water jugs driving a Culligan water van. Because the skills gained while fighting fires in Chicago, playing professional baseball, and being a Navy Seal are quite useful when applying at Sam's Club or Culligan water.

I guess we can be thankful that your former sales punk didn't end up severely injuring or killing anybody.

Oh yeah, is it really that hard to find good people these days? I work at a large dealership as a set-up tech and alittle bit before I started there some kid wadded up a GSXR down at the end of the alley, secretly hauled it back to the yard, stuck it in a corner and covered it with cardboard then limped home. Ofcourse he called in sick the next day. (FIRED,FIRED,FIRED) Now because of this MORON our test rides of new bikes are limited to 200ft around the corner(never get past 2nd gear). I'm Responsible, Professional and Dedicated to the succes of the Dealership, would never ever...ever. Now we all lose out!

Had the guy trading in the gixxer already agreed to the amount he was going to be given for it in trade?

In my area almost all of the shops allow test rides, but you sign a paper that basically states that if you wreck the bike it is yours (at the posted price). I've only seen them say no to a couple of people over the years, and it was usually "kids" wanting to test ride MV Agusta's or Duc's. A funny note is that the mechanic who works on my 10 almost always wheelies it away from the dealership (because he knows that I think that it is funny, and he doesn't do this with just anyones bike). It's interesting to me how much dealers vary, one in my area has few folks that actually ride where another almost everyone races...

Thanks for sharing your story! I watched a beemer shop mechanic take a nonchalant test ride without safety gear, helmet gloves or boots. The owner became furious when I quizzed him. He went into a foaming rant about how outrageously expensive their insurance is and he was calling an emergency safety meeting to remedy the lackadaisical neglect. These days you have to be both smart and have common sense to be job qualified.

Before I came to work at the dealership that I work at, there was one of the salesmen that rode a 1000RR around the backside of the bulding (at the end of the day, they ride the used bikes inside) and somehow crashed it into the fence in the back of the shop. There is a residential neighborhood on the other side of that fence. The bike was totalled! The salesman that did that still works here.

Go figure, wreck a $9000 bike and still have your job. I wonder if I can get that lucky?
